Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lester Matthews! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roberto Ramos! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Felipe Paraventi and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Matthews lands with a straight right. Ramos didn't see that one coming. Ramos lands with a shot to the body. No luck for Matthews with that takedown attempt. Matthews dives in for a single leg takedown but Ramos sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Matthews trying to control the position but instead, Ramos has worked for underhooks and has pushed Matthews into the cage. Matthews manages to break the clinch.
Matthews has a takedown stuffed. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lester Matthews. That's going to take a lot out of him. Matthews tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ramos swats him away and circles back towards the center. Ramos has taken the fight to the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matthews looking for a takedown. Matthews jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ramos walks away with a smile on his face. Matthews gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Ramos stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ramos wants it to stay on the feet. Ramos fails in his attempt to clinch. Ramos changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Matthews is breathing heavily. The fight stays on the outside here - Ramos looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Matthews fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ramos avoids it really well and circles away. Ramos will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
The fight moves into the clinch position. Ramos wants to break free but Matthews has control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Matthews breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Ramos lands with a straight right. Matthews didn't see that one coming.
It looks like Lester Matthews has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ramos connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Matthews tumbling to the canvas! Ramos pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Matthews was done - good stoppage!
