Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michael Patton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rufus Soderberg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Patton might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Marilyn Manson - Born Villain . There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
40 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Michael Patton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rufus Soderberg! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Steven Brown and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Patton avoids the body shot from Soderberg.
Patton throws out a loose jab but Soderberg uses good head movement to avoid it. Soderberg connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Patton's hands. Patton ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Soderberg misses with a left hand and Patton counters with a good low kick that Soderberg was not able to check. Soderberg has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Patton jabbing away but nothing is landing. Nice jab there from Soderberg. Patton scoring well with a low kick there.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Soderberg. Soderberg has control of an arm but Patton manages to advance to Soderberg's back! Patton looking for the choke but no joy.

Soderberg just trying to survive but Patton is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Soderberg breaks Patton's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rufus Soderberg was stalling too much, according to the referee. Patton wants to slow Soderberg down by chopping away at his legs. Michael Patton is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Patton throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Patton takes a shot right to the bread basket. Patton tries to score with a low kick but Soderberg moves his leg out of the way. Soderberg's corner calls for a 1-2. Soderberg obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Soderberg shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Patton defends it nicely. Patton throws an off balance right hand
and Soderberg counters by moving into the clinch. A nice right hand lands inside from Patton. Soderberg tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Patton just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Soderberg is trying to pull guard but Patton turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Michael Patton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rufus Soderberg. Patton swings wildly with an uppercut but Soderberg uses good head movement to avoid it. Soderberg is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Patton to keep the fight standing. Patton blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Soderberg jumps guard but Patton turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. I was talking to Patton's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Soderberg is trying to pull guard but Patton turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Patton lands with a short punch from the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Patton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

A jab from Soderberg finds it's way through Patton's defenses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Michael Patton will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Patton throws a right and a left that Soderberg avoids nicely. Soderberg misses with an uppercut. Patton saw that one coming. Soderberg scores with a hook to the body. Patton takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Soderberg blocks the body kick.
A leg kick checked by Soderberg. Soderberg tries to score a power double leg takedown but Patton sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Soderberg somewhat. Soderberg avoids a kick to the body.
Patton lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Patton tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Soderberg shoots in for a double leg but Patton sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Michael Patton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rufus Soderberg. Soderberg tries to score a power double leg takedown but Patton sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Soderberg somewhat. Patton lands with a shot to the body. Patton shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Patton misses with a straight left. Soderberg swings for the body but Patton moves out of range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Patton displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Soderberg. Patton takes a swing at Soderberg's ribcage but misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Soderberg bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Patton is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Soderberg working away. Soderberg looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Patton is avoiding damage well.
Patton manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Patton content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Patton wants to control but Soderberg is keeping him busy. Soderberg moves into full guard.
Patton is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Soderberg wants to sweep but no luck. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Soderberg is on top in guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Michael Patton will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

On like donkey kong! Patton sizes up Soderberg with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Soderberg looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Patton! Soderberg in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Soderberg lands an elbow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Soderberg trying to control the action but Patton is working from the bottom. Who's going to make the next move? The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Soderberg tries to move into full mount but can't pass Patton's legs.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Soderberg trying to control the action but Patton is working from the bottom. Soderberg tries to advance to mount but Patton instead regains half guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Patton tries to roll over but Soderberg keeps him under control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Michael Patton clearly takes that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Patton wants it to stay on the feet. Patton throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Soderberg tries to close the distance and clinch up but Patton swats him away and circles back towards the center. Michael Patton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Patton stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Patton wants it to stay on the feet. Patton misses with a low kick. Patton slips under a jab. Soderberg tries to close the distance and clinch up but Patton swats him away and circles back towards the center. Patton jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Patton here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man. The fighters circle momentarily. Soderberg darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Michael Patton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rufus Soderberg. Soderberg fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Patton to the ground. Soderberg is now in Patton's guard. Patton keeping moving, preventing Soderberg from controlling successfully. Soderberg is fighting to break Patton's control of his arms but Patton is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

That was a close fourth round but I would say that Michael Patton will probably get the nod. That's time! Patton's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Soderberg wants to control but Patton is keeping him busy. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Soderberg lands a nice forearm strike.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Michael Patton. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Patton, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
