Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Fritz Tyler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike DeVries! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Aafke Stam and Radbod Blank.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! DeVries tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tyler swats him away and circles back towards the center. DeVries tries to clinch but Tyler is having none of it. Tyler fakes high and swings low for a body shot but DeVries manages to avoid it. Tyler really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. No luck for Tyler with that takedown attempt. DeVries shoots in and drives through. Tyler sprawls well. DeVries tries to keep at a distance but Tyler has taken the fight into the clinch. DeVries looking for a takedown. Tyler is defending well against a takedown attempt. Fritz Tyler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike DeVries. The referee calls for Tyler to work.
Tyler tries to pull guard but DeVries holds him up against the cage and eventually Tyler drops back down to his feet.
DeVries wants to break the clinch but can't.
DeVries has had enough of the clinch but Tyler keeps him there for the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Still in the clinch, Tyler scores with a nice short uppercut. DeVries jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Tyler walks away with a smile on his face. DeVries gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. DeVries dives in and grabs Tyler's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tyler pushes down on DeVries's head and hops out. Tyler goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. DeVries shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Tyler counters with a single leg into guard. DeVries didn't expect that. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Tyler working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Tyler tries to stand but DeVries is controlling from the bottom. Tyler controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. DeVries controls Tyler momentarily but Tyler frees himself. Tyler will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tyler stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. DeVries swivels though and keeps the full guard. This has been an exciting period of action!
The ref stands the fighters back up. Mike DeVries was stalling too much, according to the referee. DeVries lands a front kick. DeVries tries to close the distance and clinch but Tyler swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Tyler darts in trying to clinch and DeVries counters with a shoot takedown. Tyler fights it but they end up in guard. Tyler wants to sweep but no luck. Tyler on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Tyler tries to get out of the position. Tyler is working hard here to advance position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tyler pulls DeVries in close to his closed guard and prevents DeVries from doing any damage or advancing position. DeVries has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Tyler is proving hard to escape from. DeVries got a little sloppy there for a moment and Tyler has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, DeVries has managed to get both his arms back between Tyler's legs - danger averted. Tyler looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Tyler looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but DeVries puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tyler is looking to escape. Tyler avoiding damage under a succession of punches from DeVries. Tyler trying to control but DeVries postures up.
DeVries is pressing down on Tyler's thigh, looking to free his foot. Tyler is holding on for now. DeVries is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. DeVries wants to take a breather but Tyler is having none of it. DeVries passes the guard and advances to mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Fritz Tyler will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Tyler defends well against a solid takedown attempt from DeVries. DeVries slips a straight right by Tyler. DeVries lands with a slapping head kick.
It looks like Fritz Tyler has been cut. The fight stays on the outside here - DeVries looks like he's thinking about clinching though. DeVries checks the leg kick. DeVries tries to clinch up. DeVries gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Tyler throwing strikes from guard but DeVries blocks nicely. DeVries is pulling down on Tyler's head. It's preventing any offense from Tyler, at least for the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tyler working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. DeVries manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Tyler manages to get himself to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tyler wants to stand but DeVries is controlling the position. Tyler is trying to control the position but DeVries postures up. Tyler is controlling DeVries's posture.
That's two minutes gone in the round. DeVries trying to control the position from guard on top but Tyler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Tyler slaps away a takedown attempt from DeVries, before circling back to the center of the mat. DeVries tries to clinch but fails miserably and Tyler counters by clinching up. Tyler tries to pull guard but DeVries won't allow it.
Tyler is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but DeVries is defending well. Tyler successfully pulls guard.
Tyler not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
DeVries wants to control from the top but Tyler keeps moving. Fritz Tyler overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tyler is working an open guard so DeVries takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. DeVries misses with a takedown attempt - Tyler sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Fritz Tyler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike DeVries. DeVries fails with an attempt to clinch.
DeVries shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Tyler sprawls well. Tyler wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. DeVries gets slowly back to his feet. DeVries shoots in looking for a takedown. Tyler tries to sprawl out of it but DeVries keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tyler manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Tyler clinches up with DeVries and pushes him back against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tyler jumps guard.
Tyler is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and DeVries defends well. Tyler is striking from the bottom but DeVries uses the opportunity to pass into half guard. Tyler slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Tyler keeping moving, preventing DeVries from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Fritz Tyler will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Fritz Tyler's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!
DeVries digs a good hook to Tyler's body.
Tyler shoots in and gets a takedown into DeVries's guard. DeVries has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Tyler is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for DeVries. DeVries is trying to improve his position. Tyler tries to stand but DeVries is controlling his head. DeVries seems a little lost for a moment, as Tyler dominates the positioning.
That's one minute gone in the round. DeVries wants to control but Tyler postures up. Tyler prevents DeVries from escaping the position. DeVries is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Tyler off and has taken his back! DeVries takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Tyler can't escape the position.
DeVries throwing sloppy strikes. DeVries wants to control the position but Tyler frees himself and scrambles - DeVries manages to regain control in side control.
DeVries just content to control the position. Tyler manages to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tyler has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. DeVries is working away from the top position though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tyler is trying to get back to full guard. DeVries is looking for a kimura but Tyler is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for DeVries to get the leverage. DeVries looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Tyler regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from DeVries. Tyler trying to control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. DeVries looking to sit in guard and control but Tyler gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. DeVries has an active guard here but Tyler has managed to pass into half guard.
DeVries is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Tyler pulls his head out easily. Tyler is keen to just control but DeVries is a slippery customer.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tyler lands strikes from half guard. Tyler controlling the action here. DeVries missing with punches from the bottom.
DeVries is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. DeVries is not content to let Tyler control the position. Mike DeVries has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Fritz Tyler is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. DeVries looking for submissions off his back.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Fritz Tyler. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tyler, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
