PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Larry Moreno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gred Fred (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Larry Moreno has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Larry Moreno!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gred Fred!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fred closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Moreno quickly recovers to half guard.
Moreno wants to improve his position but Fred is controlling well.
Moreno wants to control but Fred is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Moreno really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Fred content to control rather than advance.
Fred is looking to take a break and control but Moreno is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Moreno tries to kick Fred off but Fred keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Still in half guard, Fred seems content to control.

Gred Fred has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Fred is looking to land body kicks.

Fred shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Fred with a flurry of punches that miss.

Fred is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Fred is looking to work some ground and pound but Moreno has wrist control.
Fred works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Fred content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Fred is trying to work for a kimura but Moreno is defending well.
Fred keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Moreno wants to control but Fred is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Fred seems to be looking for submissions.
Fred is trying to control. Moreno wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Fred is looking for a kimura here.
Fred working Moreno over with strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Moreno wants to get back to full guard.
Fred seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Fred wants to lay and pray for a moment but Moreno keeps working.
Moreno is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Moreno trying to control from the bottom.
Fred looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Fred throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Fred is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Moreno sees it coming and defends easily.
Fred takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Moreno has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fred is working away from the top position though.

Fred is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Moreno is just riding it out for now. Fred eventually gives up the hold.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Moreno is defending against the submission attempts here by Fred.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Fred throws a series of punches but Moreno avoids them all with ease.
Moreno moves out of range as Fred throws a body kick.
Moreno uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fred.
Moreno goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Moreno doesn't manage to clinch there - Fred circles away.
Fred pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Moreno fails in his attempt to clinch.

Fred closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Moreno to the mat! Moreno manages to get full guard.
Fred is looking to stand up but Moreno won't let him.
Fred throwing strikes but missing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Moreno working a defensive guard here.
Moreno has momentary wrist control but Fred slips an elbow through the middle.
Fred lands a couple of digs.
Moreno looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Fred postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Gred Fred has got the better of the ground game so far.
Moreno is trying to keep Fred in close.
Fred controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Fred has gone for a leg lock! Moreno slips out almost immediately though and dives into Fred's guard.

Fred is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Moreno defends well.
Fred has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Fred controlling Moreno's posture.
Fred tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Fred escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Moreno gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Fred pulls Moreno in close to prevent any damage.
Fred can't keep his opponent in guard - Moreno advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Fred blocking the ground and pound attempt from Moreno.
Moreno throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fred is looking for a sweep. Moreno is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Fred won't allow Moreno to pass to mount.
Fred gets full guard.

Fred is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Moreno defends well.
Moreno wants to pass the guard but Fred is keeping the position.
Fred wants to improve his position but instead Moreno has moved into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fred gets back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gred Fred showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Fred closes the distance and clinches up with Moreno, looking for a takedown. Fred pushes Moreno against the cage but Moreno circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Moreno is trying hard to land a takedown here. Fred sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Fred misses with a double jab.
Fred throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Fred tries a head kick but it misses.
Moreno throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Fred throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Moreno's waist but Moreno gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Fred off to one side.
Moreno feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Freds jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Moreno fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Fred avoids it really well and circles away.
Fred takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Moreno.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Fred throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Moreno was covering up waiting for the punch and Fred finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Moreno is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fred defends well.

Fred tries to pass the half guard into mount. Moreno knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Fred content to control rather than advance.

Moreno misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Fred performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Moreno tries to roll over but Fred keeps him under control.
Fred is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
A nice elbow there by Fred.
Fred wants to control the pace but Moreno is squirming around nicely.

Fred goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Moreno is on top in guard.

Moreno wants to control from the top but Fred keeps moving.
Moreno pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fred is keeping the position for now.
Moreno will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Fred is controlling Moreno's posture.

Larry Moreno has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gred Fred is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fred wants to stand and escape but Moreno is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gred Fred comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Fred has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
