PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daryl Burt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen Dirty Beat-Black Eyed Peas as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Daryl Burt has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Daryl Burt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Daniel Blasius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Burt.
Burt tries to clinch up but Jones circles away and keeps his distance.
Jones tries a head kick but it misses.
Burt tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Burt throws a nice outside leg kick.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into Burt's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Jones pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Burt is keeping the position for now.
Jones is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Burt seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Burt might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Jones wants to pass the guard but Burt is defending well.
Burt is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Burt is in trouble now - Jones has advanced to mount!
Jones fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Burt sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Still in half guard, Jones seems content to control.

Burt has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jones is working away from the top position though.
Burt wants to get back to his feet.
Jones not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Jones not doing much here.
Jones is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Burt!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Burt really is a fat lump.
Jones is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Burt wants to hold on but Jones pushes him away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones prevents Burt from getting the reversal.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burt takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Jones sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Jones lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.


It looks like Daryl Burt has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Jones goes for an armbar but Burt turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Burt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Burt shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense.
Jones avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Burt tries to clinch up but Jones circles away and keeps his distance.

Burt rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jones moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Horrible takedown by Burt or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones which made him look bad.

Jones shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Burt as he jumps to the side.

Jones shoots in and drives through. Burt sprawls well.
Jones ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Jones tries to clinch but Burt moves out of range.
Jones fails to land the takedown.
Daryl Burt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Jones.
Burt throws a shot to the body.
Burt fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jones avoids it really well and circles away.
Burt throws a hook to the side of Jones's head but Jones sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Jones slaps away a takedown attempt from Burt, before circling back to the center of the mat.

and Jones decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Burt's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jones wants to stand but Burt has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Jones chips away with some ground and pound.

Jones is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jon Jones was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Burt shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Burt, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Burt against the cage but Burt circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jones misses with a jab, cross combination.

and Burt holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Jones trying to stall but Burt improves his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
The referee calls for Burt to work.
Burt is looking to take this one to the mat.
Jones tries to pull guard but Burt holds him up against the cage and eventually Jones drops back down to his feet.

Burt breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Burt manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Jones on his heels. He'll look to pass Jones's guard now, I'm sure.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Burt gets to his feet - Jones follows without any prompting.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jon Jones will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Burt tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Burt somewhat.
Jones tries to clinch but Burt moves out of range.
Burt shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jones as he jumps to the side.

Jones closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Burt quickly recovers to half guard.
Jones tries to stand but can't do so whilst Burt controls his leg.
Jones is taking a breather. Burt says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Burt with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Jones content to control rather than advance.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Jon Jones has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Burt leaves Jones with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nice takedown defense from Jones. No joy for Burt on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daryl Burt. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Burt throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jones was covering up waiting for the punch and Burt finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Jones looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Burt from controlling successfully.

Burt looking to sit in guard and control but Jones gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Jones trying to stand up but can't free himself from Burt's guard.

Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Burt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Burt has an active guard here but Jones has managed to pass into half guard.
Jones wants to take a breather but Burt is having none of it.
Daryl Burt has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jon Jones is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones is taking a breather. Burt says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Jon Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Jones winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
