PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David Hopkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Beast Cobain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hopkins comes into the arena with "The Bridge Is Over" by Boogie Down Productions blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, David Hopkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Beast Cobain!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Jeff Smith and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cobain tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hopkins manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Cobain lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Hopkins scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Cobain throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cobain tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hopkins swivels and escapes.

Cobain closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hopkins did well to prevent Cobain getting side control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Hopkins is looking to improve his position.
Cobain stops Hopkins from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hopkins holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Hopkins trying to get back to full guard but Cobain takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Hopkins tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cobain lands a nice shot to the head.

Cobain looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Cobain throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Hopkins because Cobain loaded up on that one.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cobain misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Hopkins keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Cobain cracks Hopkins with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Hopkins is trying desperately to improve position.
Hopkins wants to control but Cobain is having none of it.
Cobain is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Cobain throwing strikes here but Hopkins is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
The referee warns Hopkins that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Hopkins on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hopkins tries to get out of the position.
Hopkins is trying to escape the mount.
Cobain unloads with some shots from mount but Hopkins bucks and avoids them well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hopkins defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Cobain.
Hopkins manages to regain half guard. Good work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hopkins is concentrating on defense, preventing Cobain from advancing position.
Hopkins tries to roll over but Cobain keeps him under control.
Hopkins controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Hopkins is pressing down on Cobain's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Cobain is fighting to break Hopkins's control of his arms but Hopkins is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Hopkins manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Hopkins is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Cobain can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hopkins working away from the top, dropping strikes.


Cobain is rocked!
Hopkins lands a big shot to the head and Cobain winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). David Hopkins!
During a confident post fight interview, David Hopkins thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
