Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Garnet! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brian Marlin! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marlin takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Garnet bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Garnet is looking to take a break and control but Marlin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Garnet cracks Marlin with an elbow. That is naaassty. Sloppy strikes there by Garnet. Garnet has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Marlin gets back to half guard. Marlin looking for submissions off his back. Garnet trying to control the pace. Garnet missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Marlin wants to control but Garnet passes into side.
Marlin is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Garnet is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Garnet working Marlin over with strikes. Garnet lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. The fighters are battling for position here. Marlin manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Marlin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Garnet doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Garnet manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Garnet is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Garnet wants to control from the top but Marlin keeps moving. Garnet trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Garnet landing some decent shots from guard. Marlin keeping moving, preventing Garnet from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Garnet connects with a couple of short punches. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Garnet trying to control the position from guard on top but Marlin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Marlin throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Garnet looking to pass the guard. Marlin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Marlin looks gassed! Garnet trying to control but Marlin is working from the bottom. Garnet is working Marlin over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Marlin keeping moving, preventing Garnet from controlling successfully. Garnet missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Garnet shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Marlin's guard. Garnet lands a couple of digs. Garnet looking to sit in guard and control but Marlin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Garnet working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Marlin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Marlin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Garnet bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Marlin's guard. Garnet tries to free his leg and advance position but Marlin is retaining full guard. Garnet won't allow Marlin to sweep him here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Marlin working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Garnet. Garnet lands a couple of digs. Garnet looking to sit in guard and control but Marlin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Garnet throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Garnet manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Garnet working Marlin over with strikes here. Marlin is squirming around, avoiding Garnet's attempts to control the action. Garnet with the ground and pound from mount. Garnet landing strikes from the mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Josh Garnet dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Marlin shoots and misses and Garnet counters with a good, hard body kick but Marlin shrugs it off. Garnet scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Marlin being controlled for a moment. Garnet passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Marlin! Garnet landing strikes, looking to finish! Garnet is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Marlin can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Marlin is rocked! Garnet postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Marlin looks a forlorn figure.
Marlin is still in real trouble! Can Garnet finish him? Marlin is bucking up trying to escape but Garnet cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Garnet drops a big elbow. That's hurt Marlin! More shots from Garnet and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:01 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Josh Garnet!
