Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steven Weiss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JJ Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Steven Weiss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, JJ Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas dives in and grabs Weiss's left leg, looking for a takedown. Weiss pushes down on Thomas's head and hops out.
We've been told by Weiss's head coaches at Steel Penn/Heavy Hands Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Thomas fails with the takedown.
Weiss leaves Thomas with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Steven Weiss has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of JJ Thomas.
Weiss tries to close the distance and clinch but Thomas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Weiss throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Thomas sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Thomas moves into range and clinches up with Weiss.
Weiss lands an elbow just above Thomas 's eye.
Thomas tries to circle away but Weiss has him pinned against the cage.
Weiss really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Weiss missing with knees to the body.
Weiss is pressed up against the cage. Thomas has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Weiss down to the mat. Weiss avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Weiss has taken the fight to the clinch.

Thomas jumps into guard, dragging Weiss to the mat.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Thomas has his foot on Weiss's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Weiss works his way back into a safe position though.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Weiss would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Thomas is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Weiss is aware though and is defending well.
Weiss stopping the sweep attempt from Thomas.

Weiss is sitting in close to Thomas's body. Thomas has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Weiss is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Weiss is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Thomas.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). JJ Thomas!
A very excited looking JJ Thomas made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
