Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Xavier David (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raphael Nero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). David comes to the cage accompanied by Bring The Pain. Xavier David has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 20 - 2, fighting out of New York, Xavier David!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Raphael Nero!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Chad Campbell and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some bone on bone action there as Nero checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
David throws out a loose jab but Nero uses good head movement to avoid it.
David looks to score with a jab to the body but Nero is just out of range.
Nero waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract David.
David lands with a right hand.
A head kick misses from David.
We've been told by David's head coaches at Philly Dawgz MMA - PIT Inc that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
David takes a jab right on the kisser.
David scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Nero doesn't seem bothered though.
Nero avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
David throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
David throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Nero stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
A head kick by David misses

and Nero counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for David!

David throws Nero to one side and escapes!
The fighters circling - David throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
David takes one to the chin there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Nero lands a glancing blow to the side of David's head.
David throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

A solid leg kick lands there for Nero.
Nero dodges the punch combination from David.
Xavier David is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A jab from Nero misses.
David scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
A thudding body kick lands there by David!
David leaves Nero with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Nero slips under a jab.
David pulls out of a head kick attempt.
David throws a body kick that misses.
A nice leg kick lands there from David.
Nero lands a nice leg kick that just misses David's sensitive parts.
David does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
David loads up on a big right hand but Nero slips the punch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
David throws a jab when Nero was well out of range.
David throws a hook to the side of Nero's head but Nero sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Xavier David seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
David misses with a hook

and Nero counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Nero won't allow David to get back to his feet.
Nero connects with a couple of short punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nero is standing up over David. David looks to escape but Nero dives into side control.
The strikes coming from Nero are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

David wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raphael Nero dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


David lands a leg kick that knocks Nero off balance momentarily.
David misses with a looping right.
Nero shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Nero scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Nero wants to lay and pray for a moment but David keeps working.

Nero is trying to get an arm triangle but David is defending well.
Nero tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
David is trying to buck Nero off.

David tries to escape but Nero is in control.
Nero tries to move to mount but David blocks the move with his legs.
David is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Nero asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Nero throws a strike aimed at the side of David's head but David avoids it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
David parries the strikes from Nero easily there. Nero is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable David to escape.
David pushes Nero away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Nero gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Nero wants to lay and pray for a moment but David keeps working.

Nero somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
Nero is riding his opponent, not letting David buck him off.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nero has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for David.
David is trapped and Nero is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Will Nero go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Nero lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

Nero has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Well, with Nero on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before David is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

David manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.
Nero slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
David motions for Nero to come forward. David throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Raphael Nero showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! David's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Nero throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nero ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Nero has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from David finds it's way round the side to connect with Nero's head.
David cracks Nero with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

and David counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
David scores with a sloppy right hand. Nero should have avoided that one.

and Nero counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
David tries to kick Nero off but Nero keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
David avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Nero.
Nero lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Nero is looking to take a break and control but David is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Nero working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Raphael Nero is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
David misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
David throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

and Nero counters with a single leg into guard. David didn't expect that.
Nero trying to control the position from guard on top but David is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Nero not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Raphael Nero comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Nero winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
