The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valdez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Valdez is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
KorwinMikke is staying active underneath Valdez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Valdez seems to be looking for submissions.
KorwinMikke tries to roll over but Valdez keeps him under control.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Valdez. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

German Valdez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Valdez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as KorwinMikke throws out the jab.
KorwinMikke throws a looping overhand right but Valdez ducks down to avoid it.

German Valdez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
KorwinMikke throws a hook to the side of Valdez's head but Valdez sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Valdez blocks a head kick by KorwinMikke.
Valdez fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging KorwinMikke to the ground. Valdez is now in KorwinMikke's guard.
German Valdez has got the better of the ground game so far.
Valdez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Valdez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
