Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Scott Whitlow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gilbert Melendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gilbert Melendez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Scott Whitlow! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gilbert Melendez! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yukihiro Shimada and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Whitlow shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Melendez counters with a shoot takedown. Whitlow fights it but they end up in guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Melendez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Melendez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Melendez throwing strikes from guard but Whitlow blocks nicely. Melendez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Whitlow working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Melendez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Melendez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Melendez won't allow Whitlow to sweep him here. Whitlow controlling the position. Melendez is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Whitlow is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Whitlow has escaped and now he's on top! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Whitlow looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Whitlow pushes down on Melendez's leg and manages to get into half guard. Whitlow seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Melendez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Whitlow content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Melendez is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Whitlow jumps into side control!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Whitlow is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Melendez knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Whitlow controls the position. Whitlow throws an elbow but Melendez slips to the side and avoids it well. Melendez is not content to let Whitlow control the position. Whitlow misses with the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Whitlow trying to control the position but Melendez is working away. Whitlow takes a little break here. Melendez wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Whitlow is looking to take a break and control but Melendez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Melendez regains half guard there - taking advantage of Whitlow's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Whitlow has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Melendez defend it? Whitlow steps over the head and cranks it - Melendez is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Whitlow!
