Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dan Connor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hide Reader! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yukihiro Shimada and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Reader looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Connor! Connor is trying desperately to improve position. Connor sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Connor is looking for a sweep. Reader is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Connor makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Connor. Reader looking to sit in guard and control but Connor gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Reader looking to hit a scissor sweep but Connor is one step ahead there. Reader keeping moving, preventing Connor from controlling successfully. Reader looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Connor stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Reader swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Connor stopping the sweep attempt from Reader. Connor drops back, looking for a kneebar! Reader looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Reader looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Reader! Connor struggling a bit here. Connor is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Reader's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Reader is looking for a kimura here.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Reader scoring with strikes to the body and head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Connor wants to control but Reader is keeping busy.

Connor has his foot on Reader's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Reader works his way back into a safe position though. Connor is breathing heavily. Reader wants to pass the guard but Connor is keeping the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Connor is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Reader looking to pass the guard. Connor is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Connor is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Connor has his foot on Reader's thigh. Dan Connor dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Reader fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Connor sprawls well initially but Reader persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Reader scoring with strikes to the body and head. Connor looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Reader not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Reader wants to take a breather but Connor is having none of it. Connor regains full guard. Nicely done. Reader wants to pass the guard but Connor is keeping the position. Reader must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Connor is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Connor bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Reader's guard. Connor trying to control but Reader is working from the bottom. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Reader looking to hit a scissor sweep but Connor is one step ahead there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Connor is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Reader had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Connor is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Reader Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Connor's back instead. Reader is trying to stick to Connor's back but Connor is turning into Reader. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Reader's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Connor. Connor landing some decent shots from guard. Connor is pushing down on Reader's leg trying to pass to half guard. Reader is fighting to maintain full guard but Connor has managed to sneak the leg through. Connor with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Connor in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Reader tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Connor!
