Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Daniel Santiago! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Oliver Gears! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gears throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Gears looks for a takedown but Santiago sprawls well. Santiago steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Gears. Gears darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Gears lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Gears is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Santiago. Left hook, right uppercut from Santiago. Santiago scores with a takedown into Gears's guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Gears wants to sweep here but Santiago controlling him for the moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gears not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gears is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Santiago doesn't seem bothered though. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Gears throws out a loose jab but Santiago uses good head movement to avoid it. Gears is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Santiago. Santiago fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gears, pushing him back against the cage. Gears is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Santiago to keep the fight standing. Santiago breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Gears throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Santiago. Gears misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Santiago closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Gears tries to pull guard but Santiago won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Gears has hold of Santiago's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Santiago manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Gears is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Santiago is surviving well by controlling Gears's body position as best he can. Santiago is squirming around, avoiding Gears's attempts to control the action. Gears with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
