The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dodson clinches up against the cage. Fierro really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Dodson pulls guard effortlessly. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Dodson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Dodson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Dodson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Fierro manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dodson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Dodson connects with a couple of short punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dodson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dodson happy to just control the position for now. Fierro knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dodson on the ground.

OK we're going to have a standup here. John Dodson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Fierro gets caught flat footed, as Dodson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
