Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Alexsandr Emelianenko! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Brandon McKirk! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Glass and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thud! ouch! good body kick from McKirk - that will leave a mark!
Emelianenko avoids a lazy jab quite easily. McKirk moves into range and throws a big uppercut. OH! Emelianenko goes down! Can McKirk finish him!?
It looks like Alexsandr Emelianenko has been cut. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. McKirk throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. McKirk is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. McKirk postures up in Emelianenko's guard and throws a big left but Emelianenko blocks it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McKirk throwing strikes but missing. McKirk stands up over Emelianenko, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. McKirk being controlled here momentarily. Emelianenko working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from McKirk. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Emelianenko wants to sweep but no luck. McKirk postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. McKirk drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and McKirk jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. McKirk cracks Emelianenko with a solid left hand. McKirk has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McKirk accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. McKirk landing with the ground and pound. Emelianenko wants to stand but McKirk is controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. McKirk postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. McKirk slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Check out the look on McKirk's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
McKirk lands a strong strike to the head of Emelianenko. That's dazed him! McKirk looking to finish here. Emelianenko is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - McKirk lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Brandon McKirk!
