Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roman Goodman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Luke May!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Illya Tyunina and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

May instigates a clinch.
May scores with a nice hook to the head.
Goodman stalling against the cage.

Goodman's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Luke May seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

May drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

May is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Goodman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. May defends it easily.

Goodman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Goodman is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Goodman seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down May for as long as he can get away with.

May darts in and clinches Goodman up against the cage.
May swings wildly with an uppercut but Goodman uses good head movement to avoid it.

Goodman has one foot on May's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
May misses with a two punch combination.
May throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Goodman counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Goodman gets tackled into the cage by May. May maintains the clinch.
Goodman tries to pull guard but May holds him up against the cage and eventually Goodman drops back down to his feet.
Goodman has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by May after a bit of a struggle.

This has been an exciting period of action!
May pulls Goodman in close to his closed guard and prevents Goodman from doing any damage or advancing position.

Goodman gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

May is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Goodman is controlling him.
May is breathing heavily.
May is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Goodman slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Roman Goodman.

May takes the fight into the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A close second round but Luke May will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Goodman jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as May walks away with a smile on his face. Goodman gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

May rushes Goodman and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Goodman is trying to break free.
Goodman lands a shoulder strike.
Goodman blocks an elbow strike from May.
Goodman effectively controlling the action here.
May scores with a knee to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Goodman is fighting off a takedown attempt but May is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Goodman to the mat. Goodman regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
May postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Goodman pushes May off and gets back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

May gets the takedown into side control.
May takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Goodman wants to get back to his feet but May drags him back down.
May wants to stand but Goodman is controlling his arm.
Goodman wants to control but May postures up.
Goodman is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but May has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Goodman gets back to half guard.

Goodman kicks off May and gets to his feet.

May shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. May showed some decent athleticism there.

Goodman makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Goodman.

Goodman manages to escape and get back to his feet.

May pushes Goodman up against the cage in a clinch.
Goodman is trying to push May away but May has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Goodman is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Roman Goodman.
I think Goodman has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
