Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gavin Trevally! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Wilson McGruder! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Chad Campbell and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Trevally. McGruder misses with a wild combination.
Trevally pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Trevally ducks right into an uppercut from McGruder.
It looks like Gavin Trevally has been cut. McGruder with a strong takedown there and he's ended up in side control.
Trevally is rocked! The ground and pound from McGruder seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Oh Trevally is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! McGruder tries to move to mount but Trevally blocks the move with his legs. Trevally seems to have got his legs back now. An elbow from McGruder crashes against the mat.
Trevally avoids any damage from the ground and pound of McGruder. McGruder throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Trevally works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are battling for position here. Trevally manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Trevally bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McGruder's guard. McGruder wants to stand and escape but Trevally is having none of it. McGruder keeping moving, preventing Trevally from controlling successfully. Trevally controlling from the top position. McGruder looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Trevally puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. McGruder trying to get back to full guard but Trevally takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! McGruder looks gassed! Trevally controlling from the full mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Trevally prevents McGruder from getting the reversal. McGruder is squirming around, avoiding Trevally's attempts to control the action. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McGruder can do anything to dispel that myth. Trevally punishing his opponent with strikes. Trevally looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. McGruder really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Trevally. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Trevally sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. McGruder looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
That's three minutes gone in the round. The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Trevally's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Trevally has both hooks in and is working for a choke. McGruder is in real trouble here. Trevally gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, McGruder is tapping out! Trevally wins by rear naked choke!
