PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Josh Saffy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Junior Dos Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Saffy kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Still Unbroken. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Junior Dos Santos was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Saffy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Junior Dos Santos!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dos Santos lands a nice looking body kick.

Dos Santos gets the takedown into side control.
Saffy isn't going anywhere.
You can see the frustration on Saffy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Saffy seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Dos Santos for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Josh Saffy will probably get the nod.
That's time! Saffy's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Saffy changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dos Santos tries to avoid it but Saffy manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dos Santos to the ground. Dos Santos escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Saffy misses with a takedown

and Dos Santos holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Saffy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dos Santos shoots in for a takedown but Saffy shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Dos Santos scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Saffy slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Saffy's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Dos Santos.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Josh Saffy.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Saffy, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
