Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, George Paul! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Myron Echoes! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksandr Martynov and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Echoes tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Echoes throws an off balance right hand
and Paul counters with a lovely shot to the body. Echoes fails with an attempt to clinch.
Echoes ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Paul moves away. Echoes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Echoes takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Myron Echoes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Paul tests Echoes's chin there with a solid looking shot. Paul fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
That's one minute gone in the round. Echoes throws a poor cross that misses
and Paul counters with a head kick. George Paul is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Echoes closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Paul to the mat! Paul manages to get full guard. Paul looking to sweep here. No luck so far. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Echoes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Paul is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Paul is trying to control the position but Echoes postures up. Echoes won't allow Paul to sweep him here. Echoes trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Echoes is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Paul is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Paul has escaped and now he's on top! Echoes lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Paul!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Echoes is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Paul can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Paul can't escape the position.
Echoes working for a submission but Paul is keeping him at bay. Paul is wriggling around trying to escape.
Paul is working hard here to advance position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Echoes sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Echoes prevents Paul from getting the reversal. Paul prevents Echoes from taking his back. Echoes trying to control but he's not successful this time. Paul is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Echoes locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Paul is forced to tap!
