Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Fernando Egardo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chibi Tsushima! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Egardo tries to clinch there but Tsushima circles away.
We've been told by Egardo's head coaches at OMG! They clinched Kenny! that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Tsushima shoots in but no luck this time. Tsushima slips a jab from Egardo. Tsushima getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Tsushima forces Egardo back against the cage and clinches. Egardo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Tsushima is looking to slow Egardo down with leg kicks. Tsushima misses with an uppercut. Donk. Tsushima catches Egardo right on the button with a cross. Tsushima closes the distance and clinches. Tsushima scores with a hook to the body. Tsushima misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Tsushima keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Egardo's efforts to push away. Egardo wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Egardo lands a nice elbow.
It looks like Chibi Tsushima has been cut. Tsushima wants a takedown.
That's one minute gone in the round. Egardo stops a takedown attempt from Tsushima.
Fernando Egardo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chibi Tsushima. Tsushima working aggressively here.
Tsushima tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Tsushima lands a right hand. Tsushima is trying to drag Egardo to the mat but Egardo just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Egardo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Egardo keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
A head kick from Tsushima lands but Egardo takes it in his stride. Egardo is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Tsushima bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Tsushima's coach down at Tōshi was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Tsushima's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Egardo stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Tsushima scores with a decent looking hook. A solid body kick from Egardo.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Egardo throws a right and a left that Tsushima avoids nicely. Egardo jabbing away but nothing is landing. Egardo throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Tsushima tries to keep at a distance but Egardo has taken the fight into the clinch. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Tsushima creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Tsushima lands a nice uppercut. Egardo pushes off an throws an elbow but Tsushima leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage. Tsushima misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Nice body punch from Tsushima - that landed with a thud.
Egardo misses with an elbow strike.
Tsushima takes an elbow to the forehead. Egardo misses with an elbow over the top. Tsushima blocks the elbow strike.
Egardo is trying to force a seperation but Tsushima has the dominant position. Egardo scores with an uppercut up the middle. Egardo blocks a body shot from Tsushima. Egardo pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tsushima doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
With the fighters up against the cage, Egardo throws an elbow but misses. Tsushima lands a right hand. Tsushima presses Egardo against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot. Egardo misses with an elbow strike.
Tsushima drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Egardo gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Egardo pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage. Tsushima blocks an elbow strike from Egardo.
Tsushima gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Egardo regains guard.
Egardo wants to sweep here but Tsushima controlling him for the moment. Egardo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Tsushima's guard. Tsushima working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Egardo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Egardo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Egardo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tsushima swivels though and keeps the full guard. Tsushima has his feet on Egardo's thighs here. He's pushed Egardo off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Egardo screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Chibi Tsushima! Chibi Tsushima took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title. The defeated Fernando Egardo had this to say: 'Give me another chance please'.
