Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Owen Castle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Billybob Brubaker!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brubaker lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Brubaker misses the shot to the body.
Brubaker loads up on a big right hand but Castle slips the punch.
Castle checks the leg kick nicely there.
Brubaker shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Castle eats them both and turns towards Brubaker to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Castle swings for the body but Brubaker moves out of range.
Brubaker misses with a left hand

and Castle counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Brubaker!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Castle thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Castle remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Brubaker is looking for a sweep.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brubaker pushes Castle away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Castle gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Brubaker felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Brubaker is trying to escape the position but Castle is controlling the position.
Brubaker tries to improve position but can't.

Castle working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Castle goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Brubaker has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Castle but great work by Brubaker.
Castle tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Brubaker is looking to take a break and control but Castle is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Castle's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Castle tries to improve position but can't.
Castle wants to control but Brubaker postures up.
Brubaker tries to stand but Castle is controlling his head.

Castle sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Castle has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Castle is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Brubaker pulls his head out easily.
Castle is trying to get back to full guard.
Brubaker throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Castle working for a triangle but Brubaker defends it easily.

Brubaker stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Castle has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Brubaker manages to get his head free but now Castle has transitioned to an armbar! Brubaker grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Castle! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Owen Castle!
