PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ramon Chen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Allen Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reed comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Pain kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Allen Reed has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Ramon Chen's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ramon Chen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Allen Reed!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reed goes for a double leg but Chen avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Chen continues to drive forward.
Chen lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Chen jumps guard and drags Reed to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Reed controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Reed throws an elbow that misses. Chen uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Reed's guard. Nice move by Chen!
Reed really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Chen wants to stand and escape but instead Reed has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Chen drops back, looking for a kneebar! Reed looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Reed looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Reed!
Chen really is a fat lump.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Reed is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Chen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Reed's guard.
Chen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Chen with a flurry of punches that miss.
Chen is looking to stand up but Reed won't let him.

Our spies down at at Cozad MMA Las Vegas inform us that Reed has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Chen is looking to work some ground and pound but Reed has wrist control.
Chen has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Reed is proving hard to escape from.

Reed tries to stand but Chen is controlling from the bottom.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chen lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Reed!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chen throws a front kick that sends Reed stumbling back into the cage.
Reed walks forward, straight into a front kick from Chen.

Chen keeps Reed at a distance using the push kick.

and Chen counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Reed is breathing heavily.
Chen scores with a kick to the body.

Reed closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Chen breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Chen.
Chen getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Chen lands a body shot.
Allen Reed is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Chen tries to land a front kick but Reed steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Chen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Reed looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Chen lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Reed down.

Chen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Chen is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Chen is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Reed knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Chen wants to stand up but Reed is controlling the position.
Chen thows a huge punch but Reed dodges it nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Reed is not content to let Chen control the position.
Chen prevents Reed from improving his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Chen shoots in for a takedown but Reed shows good takedown defense.

Allen Reed seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Reed clinches.
Reed misses with a knee to the head.
Reed changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Chen fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Reed throws a push kick but Chen slaps the foot to one side.
Chen misses with a kick to the body.

Reed moves out of range as Chen throws a body kick.
Reed takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Chen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Chen tries to close the distance and clinch but Reed swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Reed forces Chen back against the cage and clinches.
Reed is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Chen to keep the fight standing.
Ramon Chen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Allen Reed.

Chen breaks from the clinch.
Reed takes one on the button.
Chen scoring well with a low kick there.
Chen jabs Reed right on the nose. Reed blinks but takes it well.
Chen shoots in looking for a takedown but Reed manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Chen's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Chen throws a wild body kick that Reed sees coming a mile off.
Reed shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Chen sprawls well. Chen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Reed gets slowly back to his feet.

Chen scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

Reed closes the distance and clinches.
Chen jumps guard but Reed stands there with Chen around his waist. Chen gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Chen has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Chen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
