Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Damion Castro! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Krystian Cierpka! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cierpka misses with a kick to the body.
Cierpka lands a big shot that drops Castro! Can he finish him?
It looks like Damion Castro has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Cierpka would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Cierpka really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Castro. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Castro looking for a sweep. Not yet Castro, not yet. Cierpka trying to stand up but can't free himself from Castro's guard. Cierpka preventing the sweep. Cierpka would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Castro tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cierpka wants to get up but he can't break Castro's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Castro is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Cierpka throws a right hand that Castro ducks under and follows up with a left that Castro also avoids with ease. Cierpka gets tackled into the cage by Castro. Castro maintains the clinch. Cierpka pulls guard. Cierpka avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Castro content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Cierpka is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cierpka is working an open guard so Castro takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cierpka drives through with a takedown into Castro's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Castro looking for a sweep. Not yet Castro, not yet. Castro kicks Cierpka off and gets to his feet. The fight stays on the outside here - Castro looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Cierpka misses with a combination
and Castro counters with a nice kick to the body. Cierpka looks winded! Castro fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cierpka, pushing him back against the cage. Cierpka takes a shot to the head. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Cierpka creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Castro swings wildly with an uppercut but Cierpka uses good head movement to avoid it. Castro could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Castro misses with a knee strike.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cierpka wants to stall.
Cierpka throws a head punch that misses. Castro tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Castro. Cierpka has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Castro uses from the top position. Castro postures up in Cierpka's guard and throws a big left but Cierpka blocks it. Castro throwing strikes but missing. Castro stands and steps away. Cierpka gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cierpka looks to land a combination but Castro avoids it well. Cierpka feints a jab promting Castro to slip. Cierpka then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Castro slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Castro blocks a head kick by Cierpka.
Cierpka rushes Castro and presses him up against the cage. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Knees in the clinch landing for Castro.
Castro can't break the clinch.
Cierpka is trying to break the clinch but Castro is controlling him. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Cierpka has Castro pressed against the cage, preventing Castro from circling away and getting back to striking at range. A battle for position here, against the cage. Cierpka wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Krystian Cierpka dominated that round. The cut man is working on Damion Castro's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Castro shoots in and gets a takedown into Cierpka's guard. Cierpka looking for a sweep. Not yet Cierpka, not yet. Cierpka looking to control.
Castro throws a big right hand that misses. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Castro lands a couple of decent looking shots. Cierpka looking to control.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Krystian Cierpka hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Castro shoots in and bounces Cierpka off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Cierpka working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Castro. Cierpka is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Castro makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Cierpka is looking to stand up but Castro isn't so interested in that idea. Castro decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Castro changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cierpka looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Sloppy strikes there by Castro.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee asks Castro politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Castro prefers to stall for the moment though. Cierpka tries to get back to half guard but can't. Castro just content to control the position. Cierpka takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cierpka is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Castro has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Cierpka throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Damion Castro is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Castro has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Cierpka finds it's way round the side to connect with Castro's head. Castro scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Castro stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Cierpka to get to his feet. Cierpka tries to keep at a distance but Castro has taken the fight into the clinch. This has been an exciting period of action! Castro tries to land a knee to the head but Cierpka blocks with his arms.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Castro with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Cierpka has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Cierpka softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Cierpka lands an elbow just above Castro 's eye. Cierpka lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Castro or not. Cierpka is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body. Castro misses with a body punch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Cierpka pulls Castro into guard.
Cierpka wants to sweep but no luck. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Damion Castro dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Damion Castro's cut. That's time! Castro's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Castro drives through with a takedown into guard. Castro won't allow Cierpka to get back to his feet. Cierpka takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Castro bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Castro has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Cierpka takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
That's one minute gone in the round. Castro in side control, just content to control the action for now. Castro decides to take the fight back to the feet. Cierpka lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cierpka drives through and clinches with Castro against the cage.
Castro is trying to break free. Castro breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A head kick misses from Cierpka. A head kick misses from Cierpka. Cierpka has Castro up against the cage in a clinch.
Cierpka avoiding damage as Castro throws knees to the body.
Cierpka misses with a short punch on the inside. Cierpka tries to break free but Castro pushes him back against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Castro lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Cierpka looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Castro pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. A nice combination there by Cierpka.
Cierpka scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Cierpka blocks the strikes from Castro.
Castro regains half guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Castro looking for submissions off his back. Castro controlling the position well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Castro gets back to full guard.
Castro looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cierpka is one step ahead there. Castro might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Cierpka tries to stand but Castro is controlling from the bottom.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Damion Castro. I think Castro has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
