Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Wensink (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Sonnen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wensink comes to the cage accompanied by Momma Said Knock You Out. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Wensink! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Sonnen! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed right hand from Wensink misses the target. Sonnen scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Wensink throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Sonnen on the side of the head. Wensink takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Sonnen is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Wensink jabbing away but nothing is landing. Wensink throws a hook but Sonnen avoids it easily. Wensink rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Sonnen counters with a nice body shot. Wensink takes a shot right to the bread basket. Wensink throws the left hand but Sonnen avoids the punch easily. Sonnen uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Wensink. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Wensink gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. A right hand to the body from Sonnen.

Sonnen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wensink swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Wensink looks to land a right hand but Sonnen moved out of range. Sonnen jabs Wensink to the body, keeping him at a distance. Sonnen slips under a jab from Wensink. Wensink throws a looping overhand right but Sonnen ducks down to avoid it. Wensink throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sonnen cracks Wensink with an open hand slap. Wensink gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Sonnen is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Sonnen with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Sonnen trying to control the position from guard on top but Wensink is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Sonnen with a nice head shot there. Wensink wants to sweep here but Sonnen controlling him for the moment. Sonnen content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. This has been an exciting period of action! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wensink regains full guard. Nicely done. Wensink keeping full guard, as Sonnen tries to pass. Sonnen works over Wensink with some ground and pound from guard. Wensink is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Sonnen controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Wensink tries to land a sweep but no joy. Sonnen working some strikes from top position. Wensink is looking to stand up but Sonnen isn't so interested in that idea. Sonnen postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Sonnen landing some decent shots from guard. Sonnen working some strikes from top position.

Wensink is rocked! Sonnen loads up on a big left hand. Wensink felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Sonnen looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Wensink can't hide his disappointment, as Sonnen celebrates the victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ryan Sonnen! An out of breath Ryan Sonnen thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
