Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rickie Myers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Makena Sy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rickie Myers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Makena Sy!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Francis DeMontford and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sy takes the fight into the clinch.
Sy lands with a right to the head.

Sy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Sy looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Myers is trying to get back to full guard.
Sy drops an elbow to the side of Myers's head.

Myers is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sy pulls his head out easily.
Sy thows a huge punch but Myers dodges it nicely.
Sy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Myers keeps working.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Sy is working for a kimura but Myers is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Myers trying to control but Sy postures up.
Myers could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Myers wants to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Myers is not content to let Sy control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sy working over Myers with some ground and pound. Myers looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Myers pushes Sy off looking to stand but Sy dives back in and keeps control.
Sy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Myers keeps working.
Well, if Sy is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Myers darts in looking for a takedown but Sy gets double underhooks and turns Myers into the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Myers letting Sy take a breather here.
Myers wants to stall.

Sy breaks the clinch.

Sy shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sy showed some decent athleticism there.
Sy is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Sy trying to control the action but Myers is working from the bottom.

Sy passes the guard and advances to mount!
Sy cracks Myers with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Sy is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Myers has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Myers wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Sy looking to secure an arm triangle but Myers defends it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Makena Sy dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Myers shoots for a double leg takedown but Sy sprawls well. He's pushed Myers's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Sy closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Sy is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Sy looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Sy is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Myers has managed to free his arm - good work.
Myers is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Myers throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Sy prevents Myers from improving his position.
Sy performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Sy wants to control but Myers is keeping him busy.

Sy works his way into full mount!
Myers is trying desperately to improve position.
Sy looking to control but Myers is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Sy trying to control but Myers is having none of it.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Myers really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Sy is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Myers has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Myers!
Sy is breathing heavily.

Myers drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Sy dives on top into guard.
Sy trying to control the position from guard on top but Myers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sy not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Makena Sy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


A bone on bone clash there as Sy blocks the leg kick.
Sy dives in for a single leg takedown but Myers sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Sy with a knee to the head.


It looks like Rickie Myers has been cut.
Sy creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Myers's defenses.

Sy breaks the clinch.

Sy feints and as Myers raises his hands in defense, Sy changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Makena Sy has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sy wants to stand but Myers is controlling his posture from full guard.

Myers throws his legs up looking for a submission but Sy uses it to pass to side control.
Sy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sy trying to control the action but Myers is working from the bottom.
Myers sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Myers wants to improve his position but Sy is controlling well.
Sy trying to control from half guard but Myers is working away.
Sy tries to pass the half guard into mount. Myers knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sy takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Sy stands up out of the half guard.
Myers misses with a takedown attempt

and Sy counters by moving into the clinch.

Sy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sy slaps away a takedown attempt from Myers, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Sy closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Sy breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Myers fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rickie Myers. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sy moves into the clinch.
Sy goes for a takedown in the clinch but Myers prevents it.

Sy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Sy scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Sy stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Myers to get to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sy changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Myers tries to avoid it but Sy manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Myers to the ground. Myers escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Myers shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sy sprawls well. Sy wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Myers gets slowly back to his feet.

Sy moves into the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Sy pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sy closes the distance and clinches up with Myers, looking for a takedown. Sy pushes Myers against the cage but Myers circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Makena Sy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sy has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
