Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
26 - 28 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jonny Do! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Rostam Samani! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Ren Mimura and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Samani slips under a jab from Do. Samani's coach down at ELITE GYM 40CAP was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Samani's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Samani checks a leg kick. The fighters circling - Samani throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Do misses with a shot to the body and Samani counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Samani postures up in Do's guard and throws a big left but Do blocks it. Do is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Samani dives into side control.
Do dodges the ground and pound from Samani. Samani lands a few punches from side control. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Samani postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Samani laying and praying for a moment but Do takes advantage and regains half guard. Samani not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Samani seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Do does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Do is trying to get back to full guard. Samani throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Samani thows a huge punch but Do dodges it nicely.
Samani with the ground and pound but Do uses the opportunity to regain guard. Do lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Samani! Samani can't escape the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Do trying to control but Samani is having none of it. Samani bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Do keeping full guard, as Samani tries to pass. Samani throws a big elbow that misses. Samani wants to pass the guard but Do is keeping the position. Samani throwing strikes from guard but Do blocks nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Samani looking to pass the guard. Samani looking to sit in guard and control but Do gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. We've been hearing that Do has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Do connects with a couple of short punches. Samani controls Do momentarily but Do frees himself. Do is looking to work some ground and pound but Samani has wrist control. Do loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Samani bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Do's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Samani trying to control the position from guard on top but Do is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Do wants to stand but Samani is controlling the position. Samani working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Samani keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Do's head. Samani trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Samani throws an elbow that misses. Do uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Samani's guard. Nice move by Do! This has been an exciting period of action! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Do sitting in guard here, content to control. Do trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Samani cracks the inside of Do's front leg. Samani checks the leg kick nicely there.
Samani changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Do misses with a head kick.
Do throws a leg kick and Samani counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Samani is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Samani trying to advance position but Do counters by regaining guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Samani passes easily into side control. Nice work. Do parries the strikes from Samani easily there. Samani is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Do to escape.
Samani throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Samani looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Do taking punishment in the form of punches.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Samani is trying to get an arm triangle but Do is defending well. Samani throws an elbow but Do slips to the side and avoids it well. Samani working the strikes but Do uses the opportunity to regain half guard. Samani sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Do defending well though. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Do is staying active underneath Samani, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Samani not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rostam Samani showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Do's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

and Samani counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Samani is looking for submissions but instead, Do has regained full guard.
Do pulls Samani in close to prevent any damage. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Samani wants to control from the top but Do keeps moving. Samani slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Do not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Do tries to land a sweep but no joy. Samani trying to control but Do is working from the bottom.
We're going to have a standup here because Jonny Do wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Samani shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Do pinned against the cage. Do gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Do fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Samani has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Do misses with a leg kick. Samani misses with a looping right. Do wants to slow Samani down by chopping away at his legs. Do closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. A swing and a miss from Samani. Do comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Do misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Samani.
Do does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Do swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Samani counters with a single leg into guard. Do didn't expect that. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Samani trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Samani loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Samani stands and throws Do's legs to the side, diving into side control. Samani tries to move to mount but Do blocks the move with his legs. Samani throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Do works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Do is defending against the submission attempts here by Samani.
Samani is looking to stall here but Do recovers full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Samani accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Do working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Samani. Jonny Do has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Samani trying to control but Do is working from the bottom. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Do looking for a guillotine here but Samani defends easily.
And that's the end of the fight! Rostam Samani comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Samani has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
