PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Waldo Boss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker has chosen Shut em Down as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Waldo Boss! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bobby Walker! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, David Schapiro and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boss fails with the takedown. An inside leg kick lands from Walker. Walker is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Boss closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Boss lands in his opponent's guard. Walker looking for a sweep. Not yet Walker, not yet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Walker trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Walker working a defensive guard here.
Walker wants to sweep here but Boss controlling him for the moment. Boss postures up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Walker shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Boss counters with a stiff right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boss misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Walker.
Walker gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Boss counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Boss passes Walker's left leg - he's now in half guard. Walker wants to improve his position but Boss is controlling well.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Walker looks gassed! Ground and pound from Boss. Boss looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Walker with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Boss lands a nice short elbow.
Walker is rocked! The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Boss connects with a nice short shot to Walker's temple. Walker is still in real trouble! Can Boss finish him? Walker is trying to get back to full guard. Walker seems to have recovered his senses. Boss looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Walker trying to control from the bottom.
Boss drops an elbow to the side of Walker's head. Boss lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Boss is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Boss passes the guard and advances to mount! Walker throwing hammer fists to the chest of Boss. What's that going to do exactly? Walker is looking to get to half guard. Boss postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Walker looks a forlorn figure.
Boss with shots to the head and body - Walker looks very uncomfortable down there. Walker is in a horrible position here. Boss smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Boss raining down shots from the mount! Boss with good strikes from the mount here! Walker tries to reverse the position but Boss maintains control. Walker is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Boss cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Boss lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Walker hang on? Walker is looking to get to half guard. Walker sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Boss moves nicely into side control. Boss lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Walker down.
Boss in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Walker throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land. Walker is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Boss working the ground and pound. Boss lands a nice forearm strike.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Boss scores with a couple of short elbows. Boss has knee on belly and moves into mount. Walker is in all sorts of trouble here.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Boss cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Boss is in the full mount, landing strikes. Boss in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Walker can't escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Walker wants to control but Boss is having none of it. Walker is working to get back to half guard.
Boss lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Walker hang on? The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Boss prevents Walker from getting the reversal. Boss scores with a couple of good head shots there.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Waldo Boss dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Boss shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Boss was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Boss lands a big shot there that rocks Walker but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Boss has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Boss scoring with strikes but Walker is staying in there. Walker is desperately trying to improve his position but Boss has a good base and remains in mount. Boss looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Walker manages to regain half guard. Good work. Walker trying to control but Boss postures up.
Walker kicks Boss off and gets back to his feet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Boss misses the jab. Bobby Walker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Walker doesn't succeed with the takedown and Boss counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boss has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Boss putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Walker is bucking up trying to escape but Boss cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Boss landing strikes, looking to finish! Boss landing strikes from the mount. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Walker can do anything to dispel that myth. Walker sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Boss scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Walker wants to get back to full guard. Walker punching from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Boss looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Boss is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Boss lands with some strikes. Boss scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Walker wants to control but Boss is having none of it. Walker working to try and regain half guard.
Boss looking to secure an arm triangle but Walker defends it well. Walker is looking to improve his position but Boss isn't that keen on the idea.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Walker has left one of his arms exposed and Boss doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Walker screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
