PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Shooter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joel Turgeon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jake Shooter has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jake Shooter seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jake Shooter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joel Turgeon!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Turgeon has taken the fight to the clinch.
Turgeon looking to stall.
Turgeon prevents the takedown attempt.

Turgeon breaks from the clinch.
Shooter checks a low kick from Turgeon.
Turgeon closes the distance and clinches up with Shooter, looking for a takedown. Turgeon pushes Shooter against the cage but Shooter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nice sprawl there from Turgeon as Shooter shoots in.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Shooter checks a leg kick.
Turgeon throws a body kick that misses.
A head kick from Turgeon lands but Shooter takes it in his stride.
Turgeon swings for the body but Shooter moves out of range.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Turgeon lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Shooter has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Shooter and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Shooter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Turgeon circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Shooter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shooter moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Turgeon leaves Shooter with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Turgeon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Shooter tries to avoid it but Turgeon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Shooter to the ground. Shooter escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Turgeon throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Shooter wants to clinch up but Turgeon keeps it at a distance.
Shooter blocks a leg kick.

Turgeon has managed to clinch.
Shooter is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Shooter has picked Turgeon up - he's going for a ride! Shooter dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
We've been hearing that Shooter has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Turgeon is concentrating on defense, preventing Shooter from advancing position.
Shooter is controlling the pace.
Shooter has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Shooter wants to control but Turgeon is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jake Shooter.
Turgeon thuds a left hand into Shooter's body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Turgeon throws a head kick but Shooter moves out of range.
Shooter checks a leg kick.
Turgeon avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Turgeon pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Shooter tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Turgeon fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Shooter, pushing him back against the cage.
Turgeon is looking to break free of the clinch but Shooter has double underhooks.

Turgeon can't break the clinch.
Turgeon missing with knees to the body.

Shooter has picked Turgeon up - he's going for a ride! Shooter dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shooter is trying to control. Turgeon wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Turgeon is trying to maintain the position but Shooter is very close to passing his half guard.
Turgeon is trying to stand back up but Shooter is controlling him

Shooter wants to control from the top but Turgeon keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jake Shooter just wasn't active enough.
Turgeon pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Sloppy strikes from Turgeon. Those never looked like landing.
Shooter looks for a takedown but Turgeon sprawls well.
Turgeon fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Shooter.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Turgeon looks to land a left hand but Shooter moved out of range nicely.
Shooter shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joel Turgeon dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Turgeon throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
A slow jab from Turgeon misses its intended target.
Turgeon tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Shooter tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Turgeon paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Turgeon throws a head kick that misses.

Turgeon closes the distance and clinches.
Turgeon takes a knee right on the jaw!
Shooter looking for a takedown.
Shooter is pressed up against the cage. Turgeon has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Shooter down to the mat. Shooter avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Shooter wants to clinch.
Turgeon tries to score with a low kick but Shooter moves his leg out of the way.
Joel Turgeon seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Turgeon misses with a takedown attempt

so Shooter counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Shooter engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Turgeon looking to control.
Shooter is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Turgeon is looking to stand up but Shooter isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Shooter shoots for a takedown but Turgeon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Turgeon scores with a body shot.
Shooter sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Turgeon lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Shooter at a distance.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Turgeon counters by moving into the clinch.
Shooter tries to score a body lock takedown but Turgeon shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Turgeon is trying to maintain a safe position but Shooter gets an underhook and turns Turgeon into the cage.
Turgeon connects with a nasty looking knee right to Shooter's face.
Shooter is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Shooter tries to score a body lock takedown but Turgeon shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Shooter changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Turgeon fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Turgeon pivots, looking for a leg kick but Shooter is out of range and Turgeon settles back down.

Shooter shoots in and bounces Turgeon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Shooter slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Joel Turgeon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Turgeon is working for takedown but Shooter is calmly controlling the position for now.
Turgeon takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Shooter has Turgeon pressed against the cage, preventing Turgeon from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Shooter lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Well, if Shooter is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Turgeon wants to control but Shooter is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Shooter clinches up with Turgeon and pushes him back against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Shooter wants to control from the top but Turgeon keeps moving.
Shooter stays in close to Turgeon's body and controls the position.

Turgeon throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Turgeon defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Shooter.
Turgeon lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Joel Turgeon.
I've got Turgeon winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
