Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Percy Whitley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Phillip Musick! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, William Gold and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Whitley tries to clinch up. Whitley could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Musick has Whitley up against the cage in a clinch.
Whitley taking a breather. Musick has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Whitley avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Musick manages to pull guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Whitley gets to his feet - Musick follows without any prompting. Whitley leaves Musick with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Some wild striking there from Musick.
Musick with a poor takedown and Whitley makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Percy Whitley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phillip Musick. Musick fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Whitley, pushing him back against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Musick ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Musick no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Musick is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Whitley stands and steps away. Musick gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Musick with a lazy takedown attempt and Whitley counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Musick has his takedown stuffed letting Whitley counter with a right hand. Musick looks winded! Whitley misses with a wild combination.
Percy Whitley is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Musick misses with a low kick as Whitley jumps back. Whitley closes the distance and clinches. Whitley turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Whitley manages to end up in side control. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Whitley is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Musick knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Whitley wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Musick, who protects the arm well. Whitley has an Americana. Musick didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Whitley is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Whitley hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Percy Whitley!
