PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Padilla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darin Cooley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jimmy Padilla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Darin Cooley!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Padilla blocks the body kick.

Cooley shoots in and bounces Padilla off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Cooley working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Cooley is fighting to break Padilla's control of his arms but Padilla is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Cooley is stalling in the full guard.
Padilla wants to sweep but no luck.
Padilla keeping moving, preventing Cooley from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Darin Cooley wasn't active enough on the ground.

Padilla moves in looking to clinch but Cooley pushes him off.

Padilla works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Padilla really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Padilla is trying desperately to improve position.
Padilla knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cooley on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cooley is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Padilla to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Padilla shrugs it off.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cooley closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cooley lands in his opponent's guard.

Cooley slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Darin Cooley.

Cooley changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Padilla looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Cooley manages to capitalize on a mistake by Padilla to take his back!

and Padilla connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Padilla throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Cooley escapes and throws Padilla's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Cooley lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Padilla is looking to improve his position.
Cooley trying to mount his opponent but Padilla defends it.
Cooley is taking a breather. Padilla says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Padilla trying to hold on to Cooley's head to control him but Cooley postures up.
Padilla is staying active underneath Cooley, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Cooley has hold of Padilla's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Padilla manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

I've got Cooley winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
