PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steven Spears (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Steven Spears!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dan Khan!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Colin Fotheringham and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan throws a head kick that misses.

Khan clinches up with Spears and pushes him back against the cage.
Spears has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Khan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Spears tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Khan smiles and moves away.
Khan misses with a wild combination.
Spears darts in trying to clinch
and Khan counters with a leg kick.

Khan gets a takedown into half guard.
Khan keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Khan prevents Spears from improving his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Spears is looking to get back to full guard here but Khan has managed to pass to side control instead.
Khan takes a little break here. Spears wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Khan cracks Spears with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Spears misses with a strike from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Khan decides to stand back up.
Khan throws a combination that misses
and Spears counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Khan closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Spears did well to prevent Khan getting side control.

Khan postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Spears to stand up.
Spears really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Khan scores with a takedown into Spears's guard.
Spears will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Spears wants to stand but Khan is controlling the position.
Spears is breathing heavily.
Khan passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Khan scoring with punches from side control.
Spears throws a few strikes from the bottom but Khan takes advantage and mounts!
Khan looking to control but Spears is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Khan looking to control and managing it successfully.
Spears is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Khan content just to control the position here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
You get the feeling that Spears really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Spears is in all sorts of trouble here.

Spears defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Khan.

Khan is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Khan throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Spears was covering up waiting for the punch and Khan finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Spears is looking to sweep but instead, Khan has passed into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Khan is taking a breather. Spears says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Khan is trying to work for a kimura but Spears is defending well.
Spears pushes Khan off looking to stand but Khan dives back in and keeps control.
Khan moves nicely into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Khan decides to stand up, so the ref orders Spears to his feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Spears looks to clinch
and Khan counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Khan has closed the distance and engaged Spears in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Khan dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Spears gets tackled into the cage by Khan. Khan maintains the clinch.
Khan has Spears pressed against the cage, preventing Spears from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Khan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Khan looks to land a combination. Spears sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Spears tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Khan counters with a straight that turns Spears's legs to rubber! Khan pushes forward with more strikes and Spears goes down, battered and bloody! That's a wrap folks!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dan Khan!
A determined Dan Khan didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
