PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Dela Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Case Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker has chosen ˇMAYDAY! - Last One Standing (feat. Tech N9ne) as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Case Walker will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Case Walker!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walker lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Dela Cruz circles away quickly and effectively.
Walker misses with a jab to the body

and Dela Cruz counters with a nice double leg into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Walker can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dela Cruz controls the pace.

Walker escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dela Cruz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dela Cruz is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

We're going to have a standup here because James Dela Cruz wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Walker throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dela Cruz.

Walker digs a good body shot into Dela Cruz's ribs.
Dela Cruz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Walker pinned against the cage. Walker gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Dela Cruz displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Walker throws out the jab.

Walker lands a left and a right that send Dela Cruz crashing to the mat, dazed. Walker thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like James Dela Cruz has been cut.
Dela Cruz has been working on his balance at TAP ROOT -/- 10 Coaches / Great Sparring / Value, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Walker.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Walker drops Dela Cruz with a beautiful combination! Dela Cruz stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Walker is looking for the KO!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Walker swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Dela Cruz counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Dela Cruz looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Walker is staying active underneath Dela Cruz, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

and Dela Cruz counters by clinching up.

Dela Cruz tightens his grip and picks Walker up, before dumping him to the ground. Walker manages to land in guard.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Dela Cruz is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Walker presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Walker's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Dela Cruz has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Walker finds it's way round the side to connect with Dela Cruz's head.

Case Walker seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That was a close second round but I would say that James Dela Cruz will probably get the nod.

Dela Cruz has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Walker is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Walker lands a big right hand that sends Dela Cruz crashing to the mat! Walker stays standing though and waves Dela Cruz back to his feet!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Walker throws a right and a left that Dela Cruz avoids nicely.
Oh Dela Cruz is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Walker drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Dela Cruz's head, knocking him out cold! Walker is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.

Our winner, Case Walker, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
