15 - 8 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lamont Banner! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Illya Tyunina and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Banner shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Velasquez manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Velasquez pulls Banner in to control the position. Velasquez wants to stand but Banner is controlling the position. Velasquez has a closed guard, preventing Banner from standing up. Banner prevents Velasquez from getting back to his feet. Velasquez has his feet on Banner's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Velasquez slips a jab and a cross from Banner.
Banner throws a right and a left that both miss. Banner throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Velasquez tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Banner is in Velasquez's guard. Velasquez is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Banner tries to circle away but Velasquez has him pinned against the cage. Velasquez has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Velasquez lands strikes from half guard. Banner is staying active underneath Velasquez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
