Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pierre Laprise! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Skip Torres! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! That kick from Torres tenderised Laprise's leg. Laprise is trying to keep his angry face on. Laprise shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Torres napping and manages to drive through into side control! Torres regains half guard. Laprise looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Laprise is working for a submission of some sort.
Laprise is thwarting Torres's attempts to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Laprise wants to work for an arm triangle but Torres is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Torres is looking to control Laprise's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Torres avoid being mounted? Torres gets back to full guard.
Torres looking for a guillotine here but Laprise defends easily.
Laprise has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Laprise is pushing down on Torres's leg trying to pass to half guard. Torres is fighting to maintain full guard but Laprise has managed to sneak the leg through.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Torres works his way to full guard. Good work. Laprise engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Laprise knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Torres on the ground. Laprise drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Torres manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Laprise has Torres in his guard. Torres slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Torres controls the position from side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Laprise is not content to let Torres control the position. Torres is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Laprise is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Torres moves into full mount! Torres takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Torres really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Laprise.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Laprise won't enjoy being in this position. Torres looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Laprise is tapping - it's over boys! Torres picks up the submission victory!
