PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Amos Guerra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sandra Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Amos Guerra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sandra Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yuuki Gou and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hunter looking to score a takedown here. Guerra is defending well but Hunter drives through and ends up in Guerra's guard.
Hunter has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Guerra is proving hard to escape from.
Hunter tries to free his leg and advance position but Guerra is retaining full guard.
Hunter engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Let's hope that Hunter has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sandra Hunter wasn't active enough on the ground.

Hunter gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Hunter's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Hunter pushes Guerra up against the cage in a clinch.

Hunter ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hunter no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Guerra has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Hunter working for a triangle but Guerra defends it easily.

Hunter pulls Guerra in close to his closed guard and prevents Guerra from doing any damage or advancing position.
Guerra really is a fat lump.
Hunter is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hunter is controlling the pace.
Hunter is looking to take a break and control but Guerra is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Guerra is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sandra Hunter wasn't active enough on the ground.

Hunter clinches up with Guerra and pushes him back against the cage.
Good body shot from Hunter.
Hunter is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Guerra struggles to land a body shot inside as Hunter controls his hands.

Hunter is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Guerra can't fight it off and eventually Hunter manages to take the fight to the floor. Guerra looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hunter stands and throws Guerra's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Hunter controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Guerra tries to bench press Hunter off him but Hunter keeps the position.

Hunter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Guerra, who protects the arm well.
Guerra gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Guerra is trying to stand up here but Hunter is controlling him well.
Hunter with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Guerra is refusing to be controlled, as Hunter sits in half guard.
Hunter tries to pass the half guard into mount. Guerra knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Hunter slows the pace down in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Sandra Hunter.

Hunter closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Guerra did well to prevent Hunter getting side control.
Guerra is looking to escape.
Hunter takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Guerra tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hunter throwing shots but Guerra is blocking nicely.
Guerra tries to get to full guard but Hunter has control of the leg.
Hunter with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hunter throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sandra Hunter dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Hunter looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Guerra tries to kick Hunter off but Hunter keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hunter connects with a nice short shot to Guerra's temple.
Guerra is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Hunter performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Sandra Hunter has got the better of the ground game so far.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Sandra Hunter.

Hunter closes the distance and clinches.

Hunter gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Well, if Hunter is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Hunter is thwarting Guerra's attempts to control the position.

Hunter is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Hunter is controlling the pace.
Guerra trying to hold on to Hunter's head to control him but Hunter postures up.
Hunter is looking to advance position but Guerra won't allow it.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Guerra has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hunter is working away from the top position though.

Hunter is looking for a kimura here.
Guerra is looking to get back to full guard here but Hunter has managed to pass to side control instead.
Guerra is looking for a sweep.
Hunter scoring with punches and elbows.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Guerra is not content to let Hunter control the position.
Guerra tries to improve position but can't.

Hunter staying calm.

Check out the look on Hunter's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Hunter working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Guerra is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hunter is controlling him well.
Guerra tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Hunter is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Guerra has escaped the position, nice work there.
Guerra isn't going anywhere.
Guerra is trying to get back to his feet.
Hunter tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Hunter controls the position from side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Guerra regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sandra Hunter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Guerra gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hunter to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Hunter is stalling in the full guard.
Hunter tries to free his leg and advance position but Guerra is retaining full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Sandra Hunter.
Hunter throws a leg kick but Guerra sees it coming and moves out of range.
Hunter swats away the attempt to clinch by Guerra.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Guerra shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Guerra stopping the sweep attempt from Hunter.
Hunter lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Guerra!
Hunter won't let Guerra get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Guerra tries to control the position but Hunter now has his back.
Hunter lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
I really don't envy Guerra right now.

Guerra is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Hunter looking for the RNC.
Hunter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Guerra has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Guerra is taking damage to the body and head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Guerra just trying to survive but Hunter is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Hunter lands punches and elbows.
Hunter keeps control of the position easily here as Guerra tries to buck him off.

Hunter is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
I really don't envy Guerra right now.
Hunter is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Hunter gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Hunter gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Hunter apologises and we restart here on the feet.


Guerra is rocked!

Hunter gets a clinch.
Oh Guerra is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Hunter has Guerra pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Hunter pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Guerra tumbling to the mat - Hunter dives into Guerra's guard.
Hunter arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Guerra's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Sandra Hunter!
