Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jed Country!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Eric Angle!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good leg kick by Country there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
We've been hearing reports that Country has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Horrible takedown by Angle or perhaps it was just good defense by Country which made him look bad.

Angle ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

and Country counters with a three punch combo that has Angle backing up. Angle nods at Country to acknowledge the strikes.
Country missing with a left hand there. Angle was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Angle lands a jab-cross combination.
Country stuffs the takedown.
Jed Country has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eric Angle.

Angle throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Angle tries for a takedown but Country sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Angle drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Angle jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Country has a closed guard, preventing Angle from standing up.

Angle passes Country's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Angle tries to pass to full mount but Country defends it.
Angle takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Still in half guard, Angle seems content to control.
Country knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Angle on the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Angle is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Angle throwing shots but Country is blocking nicely.
Angle not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Angle looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Angle perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Eric Angle hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Angle throws a right hand that Country ducks under and follows up with a left that Country also avoids with ease.

Angle wants to clinch up but Country keeps it at a distance.
Country keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Angle gets a double leg takedown into Country's guard.
Country can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Angle controls the pace.
Angle forces his way into half guard.
Angle stalling.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Angle works his way into side control.

Angle fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Country sprawls well initially but Angle persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Angle perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Angle is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Country doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Angle.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Eric Angle was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Angle looks to land a combination but Country avoids it well.
Angle is looking to clinch but Country is avoiding it.
Angle fails to land the takedown.
Country swats away the attempt to clinch by Angle.
Country avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Angle shoots in for a takedown but Country shows good takedown defense.

Angle has closed the distance and engaged Country in a clinch.
Angle jumps guard but Country turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Country prevents Angle from breaking the clinch.
Angle is working for takedown but Country is calmly controlling the position for now.
Angle has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Country is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Angle pulls Country into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Country accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Angle can do anything to dispel that myth.
Angle is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Angle looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Country preventing the sweep.
Country has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Eric Angle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Angle changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Country looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Angle tries to close the distance and clinch but Country swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Country circles away from the clinch attempt.
Country thows a left - swing and a miss!

Angle rushes Country and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Country looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Angle is trying to break free.
Angle tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Angle just leaning against Country, taking a breather.

Angle's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Angle avoids the body shot from Country.
Country avoids the body shot from Angle.
Angle shoots in and drives through. Country sprawls well.
Country throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Angle counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Angle shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Country but Country pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Jed Country has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eric Angle.

Angle misses with a takedown attempt - Country sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Angle shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Country's guard.
Angle would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Angle is stalling in the full guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Jed Country has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Angle is looking to stand but Angle has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Eric Angle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Angle has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Eric Angle really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Cage Star logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
