The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Edson Gomes and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barbosa lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
It looks like Hipolito Mercer has been cut.
Pedro Barbosa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Barbosa throws a left and a right that both miss
and Mercer counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Mercer throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Barbosa tries to kick Mercer off but Mercer keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Barbosa throws a nice looking combination but Mercer bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Barbosa counters with a good low kick that Mercer was not able to check.
Barbosa fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mercer, pushing him back against the cage.
Mercer is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Mercer gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Barbosa regains guard.
Mercer throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Barbosa works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Mercer is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mercer tries to free his leg and advance position but Barbosa is retaining full guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Mercer is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Barbosa gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mercer to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Mercer goes for a double leg but Barbosa avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Barbosa continues to drive forward.

Mercer has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Barbosa after a bit of a struggle.

Mercer has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Barbosa uses from the top position.
