Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Connor Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Smithers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smithers has chosen Metallica - No Leaf Clover as his entrance music. The key to victory for Connor Ryan has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Connor Ryan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jim Smithers! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ryan fails with a takedown attempt. Ryan closes the distance and clinches up with Smithers, looking for a takedown. Ryan pushes Smithers against the cage but Smithers circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Smithers lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Smithers. Ryan gets the takedown into side control. Smithers tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ryan wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Smithers is not content to let Ryan control the position. Smithers sneaks back into half guard. Smithers works his way to full guard. Good work. Ryan is pushing down on Smithers's leg trying to pass to half guard. Smithers is fighting to maintain full guard but Ryan has managed to sneak the leg through. The fighters are battling for position here. Smithers manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Smithers is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Smithers wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ryan keeps working. Ryan avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Smithers.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smithers is trying to control the action in half guard but Ryan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Ryan moves into full guard.
Ryan keeping moving, preventing Smithers from controlling successfully. Ryan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Smithers stands and throws Ryan's legs to the side, diving into side control. Smithers trying to control the action but Ryan is working from the bottom. You can see the frustration on Ryan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Smithers looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Smithers postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Smithers scoring with punches from side control. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Ryan looking for a sweep but Smithers has passed into full mount! Oh no! Smithers working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Ryan turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Smithers off and cradles Ryan's limp body as Smithers celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Jim Smithers!
