PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Thad Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pauly Pierce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pierce has chosen Til I Collapse as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thad Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Pauly Pierce!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pierce shoots in looking for a takedown. Hunter tries to sprawl out of it but Pierce keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hunter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Pierce misses with a takedown

and Hunter counters with a nice double leg into side control. Pierce won't be happy with that.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Pierce parries the strikes from Hunter easily there. Hunter is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Pierce to escape.

Hunter decides to stand back up.

Pierce closes the distance and clinches.
Pierce wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Pierce jumps guard but Hunter turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Thad Hunter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pauly Pierce.
Hunter tries to pull guard but Pierce won't allow it.
Hunter is trying to pull guard but Pierce turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Pierce is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Pierce jumps guard and drags Hunter to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Hunter decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pierce, up you get!
Nice sprawl there from Hunter as Pierce shoots in.
Hunter is trying hard to land a takedown here. Pierce sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Hunter tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pierce swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Pierce shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hunter sprawls well. Hunter wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Pierce gets slowly back to his feet.

and Hunter counters with a head kick. That will keep Pierce thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Hunter moves out of range of the body kick.
Pierce shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hunter pinned against the cage. Hunter gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Pierce looks winded!
Pierce looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Pierce throws a head kick that misses.
Pierce shoots in looking for a takedown. Hunter tries to sprawl out of it but Pierce keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hunter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Hunter trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Pierce looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hunter wants to stand but Pierce has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Pierce trying to keep a closed guard but Hunter is proving a slippery customer.

Hunter stands and steps away. Pierce gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Pierce throws a leg kick

and Hunter moves into the clinch.
Pierce tries to break free but Hunter pushes him back against the cage.

Pierce tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Pierce drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hunter prevents Pierce from breaking the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pierce is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Pierce gets underhooks to prevent Hunter's takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thad Hunter dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Hunter closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Pierce to the mat! Pierce manages to get full guard.

Pierce working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hunter doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hunter manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Pierce looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hunter is in close to Pierce's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Hunter avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Pierce controls Hunter momentarily but Hunter frees himself.

Hunter throwing strikes but missing.
Hunter wants to stand and escape but instead Pierce has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Pierce trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Pierce avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Pierce controlling from the top position.

Pierce passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pierce in side control, throwing shots but Hunter defends.
Hunter tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Hunter covering up well under a series of strikes from Pierce.

Hunter prevents Pierce from getting a body triangle.

Pierce goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Hunter escapes and is now in half guard on top.
Pierce is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Hunter is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pierce makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Pierce.
Pierce is pulling down on Hunter's head. It's preventing any offense from Hunter, at least for the moment.
Hunter won't allow Pierce to sweep him here.
Pierce has a closed guard, preventing Hunter from standing up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Pauly Pierce will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Hunter tries to kick Pierce off but Pierce keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Hunter manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Pierce keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Pierce is trying to force a seperation but Hunter has the dominant position.
Hunter fails to pull guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pierce is trying to pull guard but Hunter has him pressed against the cage.

Pierce ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Pierce no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Hunter tries to stand but Pierce is controlling from the bottom.
Pierce wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Hunter throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pierce works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Hunter stands and steps away. Pierce gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

and Hunter counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Hunter is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Pierce pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Hunter tries to pull guard but Pierce forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thad Hunter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hunter prevents a takedown attempt there.
Pierce is looking to take this one to the mat.
Hunter controlling the action here for a moment.

Hunter pulls guard effortlessly.
Pierce slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Hunter looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Pierce passes into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pierce looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Pierce moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Hunter.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Pauly Pierce.
I think Pierce has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
