Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johny Lawton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Diego Lima! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Gregory Folan and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lawton takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Lima rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lawton moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Lima has closed the distance and engaged Lawton in a clinch.
Lima breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Lima throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. A head kick misses from Lima. Lima misses with a low kick. Lawton scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Lawton throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. The strikes coming from Lawton are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Lawton is trying to get an arm triangle but Lima is defending well. Lawton trying to control the action but Lima is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lawton working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Lawton thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Lima is trying to get back to his feet. Lawton scores with a couple of short elbows. Lima really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lawton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Lima is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Lawton is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Lima to escape.
Lawton tries for a kimura but Lima is defending well. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Lawton working the body and head with strikes.

Lima didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Lawton is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Lawton hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
