PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bart Beans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Bateman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kevin Bateman will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bart Beans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kevin Bateman!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bateman misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Kevin Bateman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bateman closes the distance and clinches up with Beans, looking for a takedown. Bateman pushes Beans against the cage but Beans circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Bateman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Beans's waist but Beans gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bateman off to one side.
Bateman shoots for a takedown but Beans saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Bart Beans has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kevin Bateman.

Bateman gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Beans decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Beans has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Beans sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bateman's guard.
Bateman keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Beans is keen to just control but Bateman is a slippery customer.
Beans wants to free his trapped foot but Bateman is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Beans is trying to control the action in half guard but Bateman is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Beans is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Beans wants to control from the top but Bateman keeps moving.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bateman is on top in guard.

Beans looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Beans is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Bateman jumps into side control!
Bateman advances to full mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Beans's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Bateman shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Beans as he avoids it easily.

Bateman tries to close the distance and clinch but Beans swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Bateman counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bateman.
Bateman wants to stand but Beans is controlling his posture from full guard.
Beans can't keep his opponent in guard - Bateman advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Beans wants to control but Bateman passes into side.
Bateman tries to move into full mount but can't pass Beans's legs.
Bateman advances to mount.
Bateman trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Beans is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Bateman throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Beans because Bateman loaded up on that one.
Beans is wriggling around trying to escape.
Bateman wants to control the pace but Beans is squirming around nicely.

Beans tries to hold on but Bateman pushes him away.
Bateman lands a nice shot to the head.

Beans tries to control the position but Bateman now has his back.
Bateman tries to keep control of the position but Beans is staying busy.
Bateman misses with punches from the back.

Bateman is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Bateman gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Bateman gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Bateman apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Beans seems to be working for a kimura but Bateman defends the submission attempt.
Bateman wants to control but Beans is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Bateman flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Bateman is trying to stand up here but Beans is controlling him well.

Kevin Bateman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Beans fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bateman sprawls well initially but Beans persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Bateman wants to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bateman tries to get to full guard but Beans has control of the leg.
Beans stalling away here and it's allowed Bateman to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Bateman lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Beans!
Bateman trying to control but Beans is having none of it.
Bateman might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Beans kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bateman throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Bateman jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Beans manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Beans is not content to let Bateman control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Beans regains half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bart Beans showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Beans has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
