Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cletus Simmons! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jordan Perini! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Steve Montenegro and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Perini takes a swing at Simmons's ribcage but misses. Perini swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Perini thows a leg kick but Simmons checks it and Simmons counters with a left to the body. Perini pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Perini throws a hook but Simmons blocks it. Simmons checks a leg kick. Simmons checks a leg kick. The fight moves into the clinch position. Simmons has Perini pressed against the cage, preventing Perini from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Simmons is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Perini is defending well. Simmons prevents Perini from breaking the clinch. Perini can't break the clinch.
Perini tries to circle away but Simmons has him pinned against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Perini looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Perini is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Perini is looking to break free of the clinch but Simmons has double underhooks. Perini has had enough of the clinch but Simmons keeps him there for the moment. Simmons breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Perini throws a head kick that misses. Perini throws a solid leg kick but Simmons takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Perini. Perini looks to land a body kick but Simmons moved away. Simmons tries to clinch up. Perini lands with a good body shot. Perini stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Perini wants it to stay on the feet. Perini tries a low kick but Simmons avoids it. Jordan Perini seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Perini gets tackled into the cage by Simmons. Simmons maintains the clinch. Simmons breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A combination from Perini does no damage. Perini lands a jab. Simmons fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cletus Simmons. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Perini pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Perini throws a head kick that misses. Perini throws a sloppy head kick and Simmons makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Perini throws a leg kick that is checked and Simmons counters with a low kick, right behind Perini 's knee. Perini misses with a body shot
and Simmons counters with a big head kick but Perini shrugs it off. Perini pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Perini throws a sloppy head kick and Simmons counters with a head kick. That will keep Perini thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Perini misses with a right hand and Simmons counters with a right hand to the body. Simmons uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Perini.
Simmons scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Perini wants to get back to his feet but Simmons drags him back down. Perini looks winded!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Perini dodges the ground and pound from Simmons. Perini tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Simmons working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Simmons with good strikes from the mount here! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Perini is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Jordan Perini will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Simmons shoots in but no luck this time. Perini avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Simmons blocks a leg kick. Perini sizes up Simmons with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Simmons really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Simmons checks a leg kick. Simmons avoids the head kick by Perini.
Perini is really turning it up, unleashing another crisp combination which drops Simmons like a ton of bricks! The referee dives in to stop the fight, saving Simmons from another fist facial!
