Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ian Rogers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brody Johnson! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rogers cracks Johnson with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
It looks like Brody Johnson has been cut. Johnson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Johnson throws a knee to the head but misses.
Rogers drops down looking for an ankle pick but Johnson pulls his leg out and moves away.
Johnson dodges the punch combination from Rogers.
Johnson closes the distance and clinches. Rogers digs a right hand into Johnson's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Johnson's gas tank. Rogers is working for takedown but Johnson is calmly controlling the position for now. With the two fighters working up against the cage, Johnson just misses with a elbow thrown towards Rogers's brow. Johnson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Rogers turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rogers manages to end up in side control. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Johnson wants to get back to his feet but Rogers drags him back down. Rogers wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Johnson, who protects the arm well. Johnson is trying to improve his position. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Johnson is trying to control Rogers's posture but Rogers avoids it. Rogers is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Johnson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rogers thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Johnson pushes Rogers away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Rogers gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Rogers tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Rogers tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rogers has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson is looking for a sweep. Johnson tries to escape but Rogers is in control. Rogers tries for a kimura but Johnson is defending well. Rogers tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Rogers tries for a kimura but Johnson is defending well. Rogers scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Johnson is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Rogers can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
