Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Cutler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Paul! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Eddie Farnsworth and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paul looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Cutler looking for a sweep. Not yet Cutler, not yet. Paul advances position into side control! Paul advances to mount. Paul thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Paul wants to finish this one by submission but Cutler is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Paul. Paul fails to take his opponent's back. Paul working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Cutler knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Paul on the ground. Paul with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Cutler wants to get back to his feet.
Cutler wants to control but Paul is having none of it. Cutler is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cutler is controlling an arm, preventing Paul from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Paul prevents Cutler from getting the reversal. Paul working for a submission but Cutler is keeping him at bay. Paul looks gassed! Paul looking for a guillotine from mount but Cutler is having none of it. You get the feeling that Cutler really doesn't like being in this position too much.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Paul sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Cutler is working to get back to half guard.
Cutler wants to hold on but Paul pushes him away. Cutler wants to try and get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Cutler is hanging on here. He's in a desperate position. Paul seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Cutler is holding on tight.
Paul has control of Cutler's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Cutler regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Cutler really wants to buck Paul off and get back to his feet. Cutler working to try and regain half guard.
Paul thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Paul prevents Cutler from getting the reversal. Paul quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Paul but it's paid off an Cutler is forced to tap! Nice work by Paul.
