Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dylan Peterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gray Hawkes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dylan Peterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gray Hawkes!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hawkes bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hawkes scores with punches from side control.
Peterson tries to buck Hawkes off but Hawkes is having none of it.
Hawkes misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Peterson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Peterson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hawkes controls the position from side control.

Hawkes has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Peterson shoots in but no luck this time.

Hawkes drives through and clinches with Peterson against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Hawkes is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Peterson can't fight it off and eventually Hawkes manages to take the fight to the floor. Peterson looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Peterson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Hawkes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hawkes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hawkes passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Peterson!
Hawkes misses with a head shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hawkes throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Peterson because Hawkes loaded up on that one.
Hawkes avoids the attempt from Peterson to control.
Hawkes controlling from the full mount.
Peterson tries to lock up and control but Hawkes gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Hawkes's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Let's hope that Hawkes has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Hawkes looking to ground and pound but Peterson is blocking nicely.
Hawkes misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Hawkes throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Peterson is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Hawkes takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Hawkes thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Hawkes prevents Peterson from getting the reversal.
Hawkes takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Peterson is wriggling around trying to escape.
Hawkes has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Peterson's face.
Peterson wants to hold on but Hawkes pushes him away.
Hawkes has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hawkes tries to control but Peterson wriggling away.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hawkes working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Peterson tries to lock up and control but Hawkes gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Peterson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Hawkes connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gray Hawkes dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Hawkes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Hawkes gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Peterson.
Peterson landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Hawkes works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Hawkes stands and steps away. Peterson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Hawkes throws a half hearted mid kick.

Hawkes shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Peterson is trying to get back to full guard.

Hawkes throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Peterson is refusing to be controlled, as Hawkes sits in half guard.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Hawkes thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Peterson's head.

Hawkes is working for a submission of some sort.
Hawkes is looking to take a break and control but Peterson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Hawkes. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Hawkes is looking for a kimura here.

Hawkes wants to free his trapped foot but Peterson is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Hawkes seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Peterson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Hawkes takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Peterson gets caught napping as Hawkes dives in and scores a takedown. Peterson manages to retain guard.
Peterson has Hawkes pulled in close to control his posture.
Hawkes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Hawkes won't allow Peterson to sweep him here.

Gray Hawkes has got the better of the ground game so far.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Gray Hawkes wasn't active enough on the ground.
Hawkes throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Hawkes scores with a takedown into Peterson's guard.
Hawkes not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Hawkes throws a big right hand that misses.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hawkes drops back looking for a leg! Peterson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Peterson manages to kick Hawkes off! Hawkes jumps back into Peterson's guard.
Hawkes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Peterson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hawkes chips away with some ground and pound.
Peterson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gray Hawkes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Hawkes feints and as Peterson raises his hands in defense, Hawkes changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Hawkes decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Peterson, up you get!

Hawkes throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Hawkes wants to pass the guard but Peterson is keeping the position.

Peterson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Hawkes takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Peterson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hawkes is controlling him.

Peterson isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hawkes stacks Peterson on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hawkes!
Peterson is trying to buck Hawkes off.
The ground and pound from Hawkes seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Hawkes sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Peterson is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Peterson is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hawkes has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Hawkes has managed to clinch.

Hawkes manages to pull guard.
Peterson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Hawkes is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Peterson defends well.
Hawkes has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Peterson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hawkes is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Peterson, into his guard.

Hawkes controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Hawkes in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hawkes is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Gray Hawkes.

Hawkes closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Peterson to the mat! Peterson manages to get full guard.
Hawkes is stalling in the full guard.
Peterson is trying to keep Hawkes in close.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dylan Peterson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gray Hawkes is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Hawkes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
