PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Wilfred Trent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlito Barzini (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Wilfred Trent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Carlito Barzini!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Arvi Lind and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Trent. No joy for Barzini on that attempt.

Trent changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Barzini looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Trent prevents Barzini from escaping the position.
Trent in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Barzini prevents Trent from moving into mount.

Trent tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Trent tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Trent trying to control the position but Barzini is working away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barzini tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Barzini is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Trent lands shots from the back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Trent has got his arm under Barzini's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Barzini has spun round into Trent's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

Barzini drops back looking for a leg! Trent is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Trent manages to kick Barzini off! Barzini jumps back into Trent's guard.
Barzini advances to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Trent regains full guard. Nicely done.

Trent is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Trent tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Trent is looking for a triangle but Barzini pushes his legs off easily.
Barzini trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Trent looking for a guillotine here but Barzini defends easily.
We've been informed that Barzini has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Trent keeping full guard, as Barzini tries to pass.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Trent is looking for a triangle here but Barzini uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Barzini tries for a kimura but Trent is defending well.

Barzini tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Barzini has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Barzini tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Trent's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Trent will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Trent changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Barzini looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Barzini gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Trent scoring with strikes to the body and head.

Barzini looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Trent throwing shots but Barzini is blocking nicely.
Trent has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Barzini is trying to escape the mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Trent tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Barzini is wriggling around trying to escape.
Trent sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Trent lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Trent wants to control but instead Barzini manages to regain half guard.

Barzini is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Trent pulls his head out easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barzini is in trouble now - Trent has advanced to mount!
Trent looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Trent lands a big elbow.

Trent working for a guillotine from mount but Barzini is in no mood to give up.
Barzini tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Trent takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Trent goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Barzini turns into him and now he's in Trent's guard.
Trent is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Barzini drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Trent manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Barzini has Trent in his guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wilfred Trent dominated that second round.
That's time! Trent's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Trent shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Barzini's guard.
Trent trying to control but Barzini is working from the bottom.

Trent drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Barzini dives on top into guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Trent wants to sweep here but Barzini controlling him for the moment.

Barzini postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Trent is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Barzini, into his guard.

Trent works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Barzini looks like he's trying to stand up.
Trent seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Barzini does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Barzini tries to get to full guard but Trent has control of the leg.
Trent wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barzini keeps working.
Wilfred Trent overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Trent is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Barzini defends it well.
Trent lands strikes from half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Trent slows the pace down in half guard.
Trent slips a nice elbow through Barzini's hands, connecting with Barzini's forehead.
Trent looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Trent works his way into side control.
Barzini tries to improve position but can't.
Wilfred Trent is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Trent controlling the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Trent leaves Barzini with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Barzini showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Trent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wilfred Trent showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Trent has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
