Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Wilton Whitfield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jose Silva will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wilton Whitfield!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jose Silva!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitfield fails with an attempt to clinch.
Whitfield checks a low kick from Silva.
Whitfield tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Jose Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silva lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Whitfield blocks a leg kick.
Silva avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Whitfield displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Silva throws out the jab.
Silva lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva throws a series of punches but Whitfield moves out of range.
Whitfield on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Whitfield tries to close the distance and clinch but Silva swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Silva throws a leg kick
and Whitfield counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Silva is lucky that one didn't land flush.

and Whitfield counters with a nice leg kick.
Whitfield takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Whitfield avoids the body shot from Silva.
Whitfield misses with a head kick.
Silva throws a combination that misses
and Whitfield counters with a nice leg kick.
Silva falls off balance throwing a combination
and Whitfield makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Silva looks winded!
Silva will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Whitfield thumps Silva with a low kick.

A looping hook to the body misses from Silva. Whitfield does a little dance to reset his feet.
Silva misses with a two punch combination.

Whitfield clinches up with Silva and pushes him back against the cage.
Whitfield is trying to pull guard but Silva has him pressed against the cage.
A head punch on the inside from Whitfield fails to land.
Whitfield tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Silva smiles and moves away.
Whitfield throws a lazy head kick
and Silva counters with a low kick, right behind Whitfield 's knee.
Silva lands a jab-cross combination.
Silva lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Whitfield backs up against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A low kick from Silva misses

and Whitfield counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Whitfield.

Whitfield decides to pull guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Whitfield controls Silva momentarily but Silva frees himself.
Silva is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Silva wants to pass the guard but Whitfield is keeping the position.
Whitfield is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Silva dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Silva lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Whitfield circles away quickly and effectively.

Silva tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Whitfield was well out of range. Poor timing from Silva.

Whitfield closes the distance and clinches.

Whitfield jumps guard but Silva turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wilton Whitfield. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Silva breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Whitfield darts in and clinches Silva up against the cage.
Whitfield keeps control of Silva as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Silva is pushing Whitfield up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Whitfield can't get the takedown.
Silva is pressed up against the cage. Whitfield has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Silva down to the mat. Silva avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Whitfield takes a head kick and keeps coming.


Whitfield is rocked!


It looks like Wilton Whitfield has been cut.
Whitfield closes the distance looking to clinch
and Silva counters with a good low kick that Whitfield was not able to check.
Oh Whitfield is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Silva cracks Whitfield on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Whitfield falls backwards against the cage. Silva follows up with more strikes that drop Whitfield to his knees. Silva keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Whitfield! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jose Silva!
An out of breath Jose Silva thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
