PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hank Hardin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hank Hardin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jon Smith!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith looking to score a takedown here. Hardin is defending well but Smith drives through and ends up in Hardin's guard.
Smith controls from within his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Let's hope that Smith has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Smith changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hardin looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Smith is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Hardin will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
More stalling from Smith.

Smith tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hardin misses with a kick to the body.

Hardin gets caught napping as Smith dives in and scores a takedown. Hardin manages to retain guard.
Hardin being controlled here, momentarily.

Smith with more of the same as he continues to hold on.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hardin is adopting a defensive guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Smith dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Smith fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hardin to the ground. Smith is now in Hardin's guard.
Smith's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We've been informed that Smith has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Smith.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith postures up in Hardin's guard and throws a big left but Hardin blocks it.

Smith slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Smith pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hardin is keeping the position for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Hardin throws a quick inside leg kick.
Hardin attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Hardin thumps Smith with a low kick.

Smith shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hardin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Smith controlling from the top position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith is continuing to stall.
Smith postures up in Hardin's guard and throws a big left but Hardin blocks it.
Smith slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Hardin throws out a leg kick but Smith moves out of range and Hardin only half commits.
Hardin misses with a kick to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smith uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hardin.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Hardin.

Smith throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hardin was covering up waiting for the punch and Smith finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Smith engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hardin is trying to control the position from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Smith rushes Hardin and presses him up against the cage.

Smith turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Smith is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Hardin will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

The adventures of Smith the control monster continue. Boring.

Jon Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Smith closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Hardin is letting Smith control him for a moment.
Smith has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Jon Smith is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Hank Hardin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hank Hardin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hardin walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Smith checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Smith darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Smith controlling the action here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jon Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Smith winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
