Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Geeves Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shinya Aoki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Armstrong comes to the cage accompanied by Kickstart My Heart. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Geeves Armstrong! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shinya Aoki ! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Chris Saunders and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Armstrong scores with a head kick.
Aoki walks into a stiff left hand from Armstrong. No luck with that takedown attempt from Aoki . Armstrong moves into range and connects with a jab. Aoki misses with a jab, cross combination.
Aoki shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Armstrong as he avoids it easily. A big right from Armstrong misses. Aoki is trying hard to land a takedown here. Armstrong sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Geeves Armstrong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shinya Aoki . Aoki on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Aoki fails miserably with a takedown attempt. A leg kick checked by Aoki . Armstrong manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Armstrong scores with a leg kick.

Geeves Armstrong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Armstrong slaps away a takedown attempt from Aoki , before circling back to the center of the mat. Geeves Armstrong is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. No luck with that takedown attempt from Aoki . Aoki shoots in and drives through. Armstrong sprawls well. Aoki takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Armstrong throws the left hand but Aoki avoids the punch easily. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Aoki is defended easily by Armstrong. Armstrong throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A solid body kick from Armstrong. Armstrong thows a body kick. Aoki tries to catch it but that hurt him. Armstrong misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Aoki shoots in looking for a takedown. Armstrong tries to sprawl out of it but Aoki keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Armstrong misses with a body kick. Armstrong misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Armstrong fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Armstrong throws a leg kick but Aoki checks it. Armstrong misses with a straight right. Aoki shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Armstrong tries to get to full guard but Aoki has control of the leg. Aoki is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Aoki wants to lay and pray for a moment but Armstrong keeps working.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Aoki might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Armstrong haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Aoki is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Aoki is looking for a kimura but Armstrong is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Aoki to get the leverage. Aoki is looking for a kimura here.
Aoki misses with a head shot. Armstrong uses the momentum to regain guard. Aoki pushing down on Armstrong's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Geeves Armstrong is winning the standup battle so far. Armstrong misses with an uppercut. Aoki saw that one coming. Jab, jab by Aoki - just one landing. Armstrong is looking to chop away at Aoki 's legs. Armstrong looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Good leg kick by Armstrong there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Armstrong. Armstrong looks to score with a jab to the body but Aoki is just out of range. Aoki misses with a wild body shot. Armstrong bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Armstrong goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Aoki looks to land a combination but Armstrong avoids it well. Armstrong stuffs the takedown attempt from Aoki . Aoki gets slowly back to his feet. Armstrong throws a body kick that misses. We've been told by Armstrong's head coaches at Blitzkrieg Fighting Systems: Ground that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Aoki fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Armstrong avoids it really well and circles away. Armstrong is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Aoki can do to turn this around? Armstrong misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Armstrong lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Aoki avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Armstrong lunges at Aoki with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Aoki 's hand. Aoki moves out of range of the body kick. Aoki checks a leg kick nicely. Armstrong throws a wild body kick that Aoki sees coming a mile off. Nice body kick from Armstrong. Aoki scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Aoki goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Armstrong rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Aoki 's guard! Nice work there by Armstrong! Aoki looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Aoki looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Armstrong has picked Aoki up and slammed him! Aoki can't keep hold of the triangle and Armstrong manages to pass to side control! Aoki is looking to regain half guard here but Armstrong keeps moving and retains side control. Armstrong trying to control the action but Aoki is working from the bottom. Aoki is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Aoki is still trying to improve position. Armstrong controls the position from side control. Aoki is looking for a sweep. Aoki is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Shinya Aoki has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Armstrong takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Aoki is doing well to control the position and prevent Armstrong from advancing to side control. Armstrong is looking to take a break and control but Aoki is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Aoki keeping control of the position. Armstrong prevents Aoki from improving his position.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Geeves Armstrong dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Aoki goes for a double leg but Armstrong avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Armstrong continues to drive forward. Aoki gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Aoki with a flurry of punches that miss. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Aoki postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Armstrong keeping full guard, as Aoki tries to pass. Armstrong wants to sweep but no luck. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Armstrong keeping moving, preventing Aoki from controlling successfully. Aoki throwing strikes from guard but Armstrong blocks nicely.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Armstrong misses with a body kick. Aoki uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Armstrong. Armstrong works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Aoki 's corner calls for a 1-2. Aoki obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Armstrong connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Armstrong dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Aoki . That did some damage! Armstrong moves out of range of the strikes. Aoki avoids the body shot from Armstrong.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Armstrong misses with an uppercut. Armstrong keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Aoki fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Armstrong sprawls well initially but Aoki persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Armstrong is trying to maintain the position but Aoki is very close to passing his half guard. Aoki is keen to just control but Armstrong is a slippery customer. Aoki is nestled in close to Armstrong, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Aoki wants to control but Armstrong is keeping him busy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Aoki stalling away here and it's allowed Armstrong to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Aoki trying to control the position from guard on top but Armstrong is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Aoki won't allow Armstrong to sweep him here. Aoki has gone for a leg lock! Armstrong slips out almost immediately though and dives into Aoki 's guard.
Geeves Armstrong is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Aoki is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Armstrong rolls with it to try and escape but Aoki cranks on the arm and Armstrong is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Shinya Aoki ! A relieved looking Shinya Aoki thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
