Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sepp Maier! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryu Sato! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maier shoots in looking for a takedown. Sato tries to sprawl out of it but Maier keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sato manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Sato looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Maier closes the distance and clinches up with Sato, looking for a takedown. Maier pushes Sato against the cage but Sato circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Maier tries to clinch up but Sato circles away and keeps his distance. Maier misses with a takedown attempt - Sato sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sepp Maier. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nice sprawl there from Sato as Maier shoots in. Sato takes the fight into the clinch. Maier drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sato pulls his leg out and moves away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Maier tries to clinch and Sato holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Maier tries for a takedown but Sato manages to get underhooks.
Maier tries to score a body lock takedown but Sato shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Sato tries to break the clinch but Maier is controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maier keeps control of Sato as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Maier manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Maier avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Maier is looking for a triangle but Sato pushes his legs off easily.

Maier throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maier pushes a forearm under Sato's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Sato is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
