The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maier shoots in looking for a takedown. Sato tries to sprawl out of it but Maier keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sato manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sato looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Maier closes the distance and clinches up with Sato, looking for a takedown. Maier pushes Sato against the cage but Sato circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Maier tries to clinch up but Sato circles away and keeps his distance.
Maier misses with a takedown attempt - Sato sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sepp Maier. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Maier drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sato pulls his leg out and moves away.
